Abstract
A method for map updating in a conveyance, said method comprising the steps of: collecting information as it relates to at least one of a road and traffic condition, road position, lane number, or time stamp at a marker from at least one of fixed roadside signal or a data collection module; aggregating with with at least one of a vehicle reading collected for at least one of a first vehicle as it relates to at least one of mapped location, route information, vehicle operator information, vehicle performance, time of operation, route information, duration of route; generating a roadway map comprises information regarding a traffic level along a selected roadway and wherein the map updating module uses the deviations to identify an alternative travel route between the first and second locations (updated roadway map); and delivering at least one of an updated report or updated roadway map to at least the first vehicle.

1 . A system for map updating in a conveyance, said system comprising:
a processor; a memory element coupled to the processor; a map updating module configured to:
collect information as it relates to at least one of a road and traffic condition, road position, lane number, or time stamp at a marker from at least one of fixed roadside signal or a data collection module;
aggregate with with at least one of a vehicle reading collected for at least one of a first vehicle as it relates to at least one of mapped location, route information, vehicle operator information, vehicle performance, time of operation, route information, duration of route; and
provide at least one of an updated report or route information (updated roadway map) to at least the first vehicle.
2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising route deviations analyzed by the map updating module as the first vehicle travels from a first vehicle location to a second vehicle location and further comprising a reporting module to provide the operator of the first vehicle with the updated roadway map based on the collected vehicle performance and location information, wherein the updated roadway map comprises vehicle performance and location information collected from any vehicle other than the first vehicle.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein vehicle performance is measured by at least one of a sensor disposed on or embedded within the vehicle.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module compares the route deviations against route deviations of other drivers to determine whether to update the roadway map.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle performance and location information comprises a trace route followed by the first vehicle.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle performance and location information is received from other vehicles in temporal proximity to receipt by the map updating module of collected performance and location information from the data collection module and wherein the vehicle performance and location information comprises presence of, proximity to, relative spatial location of, trajectory of, heading of, bearing of, and/or a likelihood of collision with a sensed object other than a vehicle.
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the updated roadway map comprises information regarding a traffic level along a selected roadway and wherein the map updating module uses the deviations to identify an alternative travel route between the first and second locations.
8 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of a server or remote node providing alternative routes to one or more vehicle operators based on route deviations.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module provides to operators of those other vehicles other than the first vehicle different routes from the first vehicle location to the second vehicle location and wherein at least one of the different routes reflects route deviations of one of those other vehicles from driving directions provided to the operator of the one of those other vehicles.
10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module provides to the operator of the first vehicle an arrival time based on the mapping of the current day and time of day against measured travel times for the same day of the week and time of day on a different date.
11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module uses one or more sensors in the first vehicle, and/or weather information from a source providing data from a weather station, or a sensor remote from the first vehicle to determine an estimated traffic time based on a current weather or and/or road condition.
12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module provides, to a selected one of operators of the multiple differently owned vehicles, different routes from a first vehicle location to a second vehicle location and wherein at least one of the different routes reflects route deviations of other ones of the multiple differently owned vehicles from driving directions provided to the operators of other ones of the multiple differently owned vehicles.
13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the fixed roadside signal is from at least one of a sensor, beacon, transmission, monitor, or signage.
14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module performs at least one of collection, aggregation, analysis on information pertaining to vehicle operator.
15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the update is delivered to at least one of a vehicle display or operator user device.
16 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a data collection module determining for a received signal, a signal source, a type of signal, and an informational content of the received signal.
17 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising collecting information and updating based on at least one of the following stimulus: passage of time, identified navigation map error, user request, deviation from recommended navigation, route to a selected deviation or any problem not reflected on navigation map.
18 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a reporting module that filters the collected information based on the intended recipient or destination.
19 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the map updating module collects information from at least a second vehicle.
20 . The system of claim, wherein the map updating module forwards received collected information to one or more nodes in a locally stored network topology based on a user request or pre-defined rule.
21 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising an occupant information module.
22 . A system for map updating in a conveyance, said system comprising:
a processor; a memory element coupled to the processor; a map updating module configured to:
collect information as it relates to at least one of a road and traffic condition, road position, lane number, or time stamp at a marker from at least one of fixed roadside signal or a data collection module;
aggregate with with at least one of a vehicle reading collected for at least one of a first vehicle as it relates to at least one of mapped location, route information, vehicle operator information, vehicle performance, time of operation, route information, duration of route;
generate a roadway map comprises information regarding a traffic level along a selected roadway and wherein the map updating module uses the deviations to identify an alternative travel route between the first and second locations (updated roadway map); and
deliver at least one of an updated report or updated roadway map to at least the first vehicle.
23 . A method for map updating in a conveyance, said method comprising the steps of:
collecting information as it relates to at least one of a road and traffic condition, road position, lane number, or time stamp at a marker from at least one of fixed roadside signal or a data collection module; aggregating with with at least one of a vehicle reading collected for at least one of a first vehicle as it relates to at least one of mapped location, route information, vehicle operator information, vehicle performance, time of operation, route information, duration of route; generating a roadway map comprising information regarding a traffic level along a selected roadway and wherein the map updating module uses the deviations to identify an alternative travel route between the first and second locations (updated roadway map); and delivering at least one of an updated report or updated roadway map to at least the first vehicle.Cited by (0)
