Claims

Abstract

A haptic effect enabled system that includes a first image sensor, a second image sensor, a haptic output device and a processor coupled to the image sensors and haptic output device. The first image sensor generates a first digital image and the second image sensor generates a second digital image. The processor receives notification of an image event relating to the first or second digital image. The processor determines a haptic effect corresponding to the image event and applies the haptic effect with the haptic output device.

         2 . A method of rendering a haptic effect, comprising:
 receiving at least one first image event notification from a first image capturing device;   determining a first haptic effect corresponding to the first image event notification;   delivering the first haptic effect;   transitioning from receiving image event notifications from the first image capturing device to receiving image event notifications from a second image capturing device;   determining a transition haptic effect corresponding to said transitioning; and   delivering the transition haptic effect.   
     
     
         3 . The method according to  claim 2 , further comprising:
 after delivering the transition haptic effect:
 receiving at least one second image event notification from the second image capturing device; 
 determining a second haptic effect corresponding to the second image event notification; and 
 delivering the second haptic effect. 
   
     
     
         4 . The method according to  claim 3 , wherein:
 the first image capturing device and the second image capturing device have a plurality of settings including a white balance setting, an ISO (International Standards Organization) setting, a shutter speed setting, and a focus setting;   the first image event notification includes a first adjustment of a first setting of the first image capturing device; and   the second image event notification includes a second adjustment of a second setting of the second image capturing device.   
     
     
         5 . The method according to  claim 4 , wherein the first adjustment and the second adjustment are manual adjustments. 
     
     
         6 . The method according to  claim 4 , wherein the first adjustment and the second adjustment are automatic adjustments. 
     
     
         7 . The method according to  claim 4 , wherein:
 the second setting is the same as the first setting; and   the second haptic effect is applied when the second adjustment is not the same as the first adjustment.   
     
     
         8 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the first image capturing device includes a first image sensor and a first lens, and the second image capturing device includes a second image sensor and a second lens. 
     
     
         9 . The method according to  claim 8 , wherein the first lens is a wide angle lens and the second lens is a zoom lens. 
     
     
         10 . The method according to  claim 2 , wherein the first image event notification includes one of an aperture size adjustment, a zooming operation, an anti-shake operation, a GPS tag operation, a flash operation, a photo size adjustment, a face detection operation, a filter operation, a metering operation, an exposure compensation operation, a scene mode operation, an image stitching operation, a passive auto-focus operation, an active auto-focus operation, and a hybrid auto-focus operation. 
     
     
         11 . The method according to  claim 2 , wherein:
 a plurality of first image event notifications are received from the first image capturing device;   a plurality of first haptic effects corresponding to the plurality of first image event notifications are determined; and   the plurality of first haptic effects are applied prior to delivering the transition haptic effect.   
     
     
         12 . A haptically-enabled device, comprising:
 a first image capturing device configured to generate a first digital image;   a second image capturing device configured to generate a second digital image;   a haptic output device configured to deliver a haptic effect; and   a processor, coupled to the first image capturing device, the second image capturing device and the haptic output device, configured to:
 receive at least one first image event notification from the first image capturing device, 
 determine a first haptic effect corresponding to the first image event notification, 
 generate a first haptic signal based on the first haptic effect, 
 send the first haptic signal to the haptic output device, 
 transition from receiving image event notifications from the first image capturing device to receiving image event notifications from the second image capturing device, 
 determine a transition haptic effect corresponding to said transition, 
 generate a transition haptic signal based on the transition haptic effect, and 
 send the transition haptic signal to the haptic output device. 
   
     
     
         13 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
 after sending the transition haptic effect:
 receive at least one second image event notification from the second image capturing device; 
 determine a second haptic effect corresponding to the second image event notification; 
 generate a second haptic signal based on the second haptic effect; and 
 send the second haptic signal to the haptic output device. 
   
     
     
         14 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 13 , wherein:
 the first image capturing device and the second image capturing device have a plurality of settings including a white balance setting, an ISO (International Standards Organization) setting, a shutter speed setting, and a focus setting;   the first image event notification includes a first adjustment of a first setting of the first image capturing device; and   the second image event notification includes a second adjustment of a second setting of the second image capturing device.   
     
     
         15 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 14 , wherein the first adjustment and the second adjustment are manual adjustments. 
     
     
         16 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 14 , wherein the first adjustment and the second adjustment are automatic adjustments. 
     
     
         17 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 14 , wherein:
 the second setting is the same as the first setting; and   the second haptic effect is determined, the second haptic signal is generated and the second haptic signal is sent when the second adjustment is not the same as the first adjustment.   
     
     
         18 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 12 , wherein the first image capturing device includes a first image sensor and a first lens, and the second image capturing device includes a second image sensor and a second lens. 
     
     
         19 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 18 , wherein the first lens is a wide angle lens and the second lens is a zoom lens. 
     
     
         20 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 12 , wherein the first image event notification includes one of an aperture size adjustment, a zooming operation, an anti-shake operation, a GPS tag operation, a flash operation, a photo size adjustment, a face detection operation, a filter operation, a metering operation, an exposure compensation operation, a scene mode operation, an image stitching operation, a passive auto-focus operation, an active auto-focus operation, and a hybrid auto-focus operation. 
     
     
         21 . The haptically-enabled device according to  claim 12 , wherein:
 a plurality of first image event notifications are received from the first image capturing device;   a plurality of first haptic effects corresponding to the plurality of first image event notifications are determined; and   the plurality of first haptic effects are applied prior to delivering the transition haptic effect.
