Abstract

An Augmented Reality or Mixed Reality system is provided, whereby the system comprises a see-through near eye display and a micro-lens array, wherein the system is one of: (a) attachable to an eyewear lens, (b) a portion thereof is embedded within an eyewear lens, and/or (c) located in front of an eyewear lens, and whereby the system allows for unobstructed vision when the wearer of the system is looking straight ahead with normal gaze.

Claims

An augmented reality or mixed reality system comprising a see-through near eye display and a micro-lens array, wherein the see-through near eye display and micro-lens array are in optical alignment with an eyewear lens, wherein the augmented reality or mixed reality system is capable of providing augmented reality or mixed reality when the wearer of the system looks through the see-through near eye display, and wherein when the augmented reality or mixed reality system is being worn a wearer's line of sight looking straight ahead with normal gaze does not pass through the see-through near eye display.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display comprises micro light emitting diodes (iLEDs).

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display comprises organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display comprises transparent light emitting diodes (TOLEDs).

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display is transparent or semi-transparent.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , further comprising solar cells.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , further comprising an electronic module located behind the head of the wearer of the augmented reality or mixed reality system.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic module comprises a battery.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 7 , wherein the electronic module comprises one or more of a power system, Bluetooth chip, WiFi chip, communication system, antenna, global positioning system, transmitter, transceiver, receiver, sensor, application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), and/or graphics processing unit (GPU).

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more cameras.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display is capable of being attached to an eyewear lens.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display is capable of being embedded within an eyewear lens.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display is curved to approximate a curvature of a front surface shape of an eyewear lens.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 1 , wherein the see-through near eye display is attached to eyewear and located in front of the eyewear lens.

. An augmented reality or mixed reality system comprising an optical window, a micro-lens array, and a see-through near eye display, wherein the see-through near eye display and micro-lens array are in optical alignment with an eyewear lens, wherein the augmented reality or mixed reality system is capable of providing augmented reality or mixed reality to a wearer of the system when the wearer looks through the see-through near eye display, and wherein a wearer's line of sight does not pass through the see-through near eye display when the wearer looks straight ahead with normal gaze.

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 15 , wherein the see-through near eye display comprises micro-light emitting diodes (iLEDs).

. The augmented reality or mixed reality system of claim 15 , wherein the see-through near eye display comprises organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
