Reduced pressure wound therapy kit and packaging

Abstract

Disclosed herein are several embodiments of medical device packaging, and more particularly to a reduced pressure therapy kit and packaging and methods of using the same in the treatment of wounds. Some embodiments are directed towards packaging including a dressing compartment for storing wound dressings and having use instructions printed thereon, the dressing compartment detachably connected to a pump compartment for storing a sterile pump. After removal of the pump, the pump compartment can be detached from the dressing compartment and discarded. The dressing compartment can be retained together with any additional dressings and the use instructions.

         20 . A medical device packaging system comprising:
 a negative pressure pump tray;   a compartment defined by an upper panel and at least one sidewall, wherein the upper panel comprises at least one opening adapted to form a recess for receiving and supporting the negative pressure pump tray;   wherein the negative pressure pump tray comprises:
 a rim extending around the perimeter of the tray adapted to rest against a portion of an exterior surface of the upper panel of the compartment, the portion of the exterior surface of the upper panel of the compartment surrounding the at least one opening; 
 a first recessed tray portion extending downwardly from the rim, the first recessed tray portion adapted to receive and support at least a negative pressure pump and a conduit, and 
 a second recessed tray portion extending downwardly from the rim and adapted to receive and support at least one battery for the negative pressure pump; 
   wherein the at least one opening comprises a first opening and a second opening, the first recessed tray portion sized and shaped to fit within the first opening in the upper panel of the compartment and the second recessed tray portion sized and shaped to fit within the second opening in the upper panel of the compartment.   
     
     
         21 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , wherein the negative pressure pump tray further comprising a third recessed tray portion extending downwardly from the rim and adapted to receive and support a second battery for the negative pressure pump. 
     
     
         22 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 21 , wherein the at least one opening further comprises a third opening, wherein the third recessed tray portion is sized and shaped to fit within the third opening in the upper panel of the compartment. 
     
     
         23 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , wherein the at least one sidewall comprises four sidewalls. 
     
     
         24 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , wherein the negative pressure pump tray further comprises a cover sealed to the rim of the negative pressure pump tray. 
     
     
         25 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 24 , wherein the cover can be sealingly coupled with the negative pressure pump tray after the negative pressure pump, the conduit, and the at least one battery are assembled therein. 
     
     
         26 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , wherein the upper panel comprises a two dimensional sheet material and the first and second openings within the two dimensional sheet material. 
     
     
         27 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , further comprising printed material on the medical device packaging system. 
     
     
         28 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 27 , wherein the printed material comprises images to provide instructions for a user for applying and using the device. 
     
     
         29 . The medical device packaging system of  claim 20 , further comprising hinges between separate panels of the packaging system.
