Abstract

A heat shield device includes a heat shield having a planar body, with a first portion forming a first or upper blade, and a second portion forming a second or lower blade. The heat shield can be a stand-alone device configured to fit over a comb, with the handle of the comb extending away from the heat shield. The heat shield device can also include a handle structure that has a handle that is integrally formed with a support structure on which the planar body of a heat shield is mounted.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A heat shield device, comprising:
 a planar body configured to be coupled to a handle having an handle axis, and having an upper side above the handle axis defining a first blade and a lower side below the handle axis, opposite the first side, defining a second blade;   the first blade being tapered to a distal edge; and   wherein the planar body is made of a heat resistant pliable material.   
     
     
         2 . The heat shield device of  claim 1 , further comprising a channel formed in the lower side in a direction of the handle axis and sized to receive a portion of a comb comprising teeth, such that another portion of the comb extends from the planar body to act as a handle. 
     
     
         3 . The heat shield device of  claim 2 , wherein the channel is closed at a bottom. 
     
     
         4 . The heat shield device of  claim 2 , wherein the channel is open at a bottom. 
     
     
         5 . The heat shield device of  claim 1 , wherein the heat resistant pliable material is silicone. 
     
     
         6 . The heat shield device of  claim 1 , further comprising a handle structure having:
 a handle defining and formed along the handle axis; and   a support structure extending forward of the handle and configured to support the planar body, wherein the planar body is mounted on the support structure.   
     
     
         7 . The heat shield device of  claim 6 , wherein the support structure includes at least one through-hole through which the heat resistant pliable material passes to retain the planar body on the support structure. 
     
     
         8 . A heat shield device for use with a comb, the comb having a portion including teeth and a handle, the heat shield device comprising:
 a planar body having an upper side and a lower side in a plane of the planar body, a channel formed through at least a portion of the planar body in the lower side, the channel being sized to receive the portion of the comb including teeth.   
     
     
         9 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the channel is open at a bottom of the planar body. 
     
     
         10 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the channel is closed at a bottom of the planar body. 
     
     
         11 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the upper side tapers, between a first major surface of the planar body and a second major surface of the planar body that is opposite the first major surface, in an upward direction from a central portion of the planar body to a top distal edge of the planar body. 
     
     
         12 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the planar body is made of silicone. 
     
     
         13 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the channel passes entirely through the planar body. 
     
     
         14 . The heat shield device of  claim 8 , wherein the channel is configured to frictionally engage the comb. 
     
     
         15 . A heat shield device, comprising:
 a handle structure having:
 a handle defining a handle axis; 
 a support structure extending from the handle along the handle axis; and 
   a planar body mounted on the support structure having an upper side above the handle axis defining a first blade and a lower side below the handle axis, opposite the first side, defining a second blade.   
     
     
         16 . The heat shield device of  claim 15 , wherein the support structure includes at least one through-hole through which a heat resistant pliable material of the planar body passes to retain the planar body on the support structure. 
     
     
         17 . The heat shield device of  claim 15 , wherein the planar body is made of silicone. 
     
     
         18 . The heat shield device of  claim 15 , wherein the first blade and the second blade each taper to an edge.
