Abstract

The present invention discloses compounds of formula (I): which exhibit antiviral properties. The present invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the aforementioned compounds for administration to a subject in need of anti-HBV treatment. The invention also relates to methods of treating a HBV infection in a subject by administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising the compounds of the present invention.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A method for treating HCV in a subject identified in need of such treatment, comprising administering an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester, solvate, hydrate, diastereomer, geometric isomer, racemate, enantiomer, or tautomer thereof. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said compound is administered together with other agents. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the subject is infected with a resistant strain of HCV.
