Abstract

A method and system for alerting an occupier of a dwelling that a visitor is at an entranceway of the dwelling. The method includes receiving a digital code associated with a QR code scan of a QR code positioned in proximity to the entranceway; determining an occupier status as to whether the occupier is to be disturbed or contactable; and sending a predetermined message to a mobile communications device of the visitor depending upon the occupier status.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for alerting an occupier of a dwelling that a visitor is at an entranceway of the dwelling, comprising:
 receiving a digital code associated with a QR code scan of a QR code positioned in proximity to the entranceway;   determining an occupier status as to whether the occupier is to be disturbed or contactable;   sending a predetermined message to a mobile communications device of the visitor depending upon the occupier status.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the predetermined message is a video message. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the predetermined message is an SMS message. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising sending a digital message to the dwelling occupier that a visitor is at the entryway. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the message is sent to a plurality of device destinations associated with the dwelling occupier. 
     
     
         6 . A digital doorbell system for alerting an occupier of a dwelling of a visitor presence, comprising:
 a QR code attachable to an entryway of the dwelling;   a server network including at least one processor configured to receive a scan of the QR code from a mobile communications device; and   a doorbell library including a selection of customized messages presentable to the visitor depending upon contact status of the dwelling occupier, the server network being configured to forward a customized visitor message to the visitor in response to the QR code scan after ascertaining the contact status of the dwelling occupier, said server network being configured to send a second message to the dwelling occupier to alert the dwelling occupier to the presence of the visitor at the entryway of the dwelling.   
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the mobile communications device is a smartphone. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the server network is a distributed network. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the customized visitor message is a video message. 
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the customized visitor message is a mixture of at least one static image and a video presented in a single visitor message. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the customized visitor message includes a mixture of a static image, a video, a textual message, and an animation configured from a template for creating a multiple format multimedia message. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the customized visitor message is customized depending upon whether the visitor is already known the dwelling occupier. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the server network is configured to keep a log of visitors who have scanned the QR code. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the server network is configured to activate an alarm if the visitor meets predetermined criteria. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 6 , wherein the server network is configured to activate a camera if the visitor meets predetermined criteria.
