Abstract
A modular turnout personal protective garment is described that includes a full body barrier garment fabricated from a moisture barrier layer. The full body barrier garment may optionally be worn alone or under one or more of a separate jacket and trouser portion. The jacket and trouser portion are fabricated from an abrasion resistant layer and a thermal insulation layer and are configured to be worn over the moisture barrier full body barrier garment layer.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
. A modular personal protective ensemble of three separate garments, the ensemble comprising:
a full body barrier garment comprising a torso portion integral with a leg portion, the full body barrier garment comprising a moisture barrier layer and a flame resistant layer; a jacket configured to be worn over the torso portion of the full body barrier garment, the jacket comprising a first abrasion resistant layer; and a trouser portion configured to be worn over the leg portion of the full body barrier garment, the trouser portion comprising a second abrasion resistant layer.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the moisture barrier layer and flame resistant layer comprise a laminate.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the full body barrier garment is stretchable by at least 5%.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the flame resistant layer is an abrasion resistant layer.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the full body barrier garment comprises a moisture barrier layer laminated to a knit material.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the ensemble complies with NFPA 1971 for flame resistance, tear strength, breathability, shrinkage, thermal, chemical, and viral penetration resistance.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the ensemble complies with NFPA 1971 for particle blocking.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the jacket and/or trouser portion exhibits 2 or 4 way elastic stretch of at least 5 percent.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the full body barrier garment includes at least a portion that comprises an optically reflective material.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the moisture barrier layer is comprised of one or more of polyurethane, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), expanded PTFE, aramids, para-aramids, meta-aramids, polyester, polyether, polyacrylate, copolyether ester, and copolyether amide.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 10 , further comprising a first thermal insulation layer on an interior of the full body barrier garment.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 comprising a first thermal insulation layer on the jacket and/or trouser portion.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 12 wherein the first thermal insulation layer is positioned as the innermost layer of the jacket and/or trouser portion.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 12 further comprising a second thermal insulation layer on the full body barrier garment.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 14 wherein the first thermal insulation layer and the second thermal insulation layer, independently fail to meet the thermal requirements of NFPA 1971 and wherein the first thermal insulation layer and the second thermal insulation layer together meet the thermal requirements of NFPA 1971.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein the full body barrier garment comprises a collar, two sleeves with wristers and cuffs at the end of each of two legs of the trouser portion.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 16 wherein at least one of the collar, wristers and cuffs includes a particle barrier comprising a membrane or a filtration layer.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 11 , wherein the first thermal insulation layer comprises one or more of a woven fabric, a non-woven fabric, a knit fabric, a laminate, and a stretch material.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 12 , wherein the first thermal insulation layer comprises one or more of a woven fabric, a non-woven fabric, a knit fabric, a laminate, and a stretch material.
. The modular personal protective ensemble of claim 1 wherein both the jacket and the full body barrier garment include optically reflective portions.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
