Abstract

According to one embodiment, a method includes receiving an incoming phone call on a mobile phone device; determining a phone number from which the incoming phone call originated; and providing to a user, via the mobile phone device, an option to perform a phone number search to determine a name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method, comprising:
 receiving an incoming phone call on a mobile phone device;   determining a phone number from which the incoming phone call originated; and   providing to a user, via the mobile phone device, an option to perform a phone number search to determine a name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , where if the user does not choose to perform the phone number search, then the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated is not determined. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 providing at least one search method for determining the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated, receiving, from the user, a selection of the at least one search method, and accessing the at least one selected search method for determining the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated, including:
 accessing a remote site for determining a name associated with the phone number; and 
 outputting the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated on the mobile phone device. 
   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 answering the incoming phone call and placing the incoming phone call into a holding state;   retrieving information associated with the phone number while the incoming phone call is in the holding state; and   outputting the retrieved information associated with the phone number.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising providing to a remote site the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining if the phone number is associated with a name in a phonebook of the mobile phone device; and   accessing a remote site in response to determining that the phone number is not associated with the name in the phonebook of the mobile phone device.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining and outputting the name and additional information associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated on the mobile phone device are performed after an initiation by a user of the mobile phone device. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining and outputting the name and an additional information associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated on the mobile phone device are performed automatically. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising accessing a remote site, the remote site including a caller ID database. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising retrieving information associated with the phone number, the information including a mailing address. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising retrieving information associated with the phone number, the information including a webpage. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising retrieving information associated with the phone number, the information including an entity type. 
     
     
         13 . A system, comprising:
 a processor; and
 logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor, to cause the processor to: 
 receive an incoming phone call on a mobile phone device; 
 determine a phone number from which the incoming phone call originated; and 
 provide to a user, via the mobile phone device, an option to perform a phone number search to determine a name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated. 
   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , where if the user does not choose to perform the phone number search, then the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated is not determined. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 13 , further comprising logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor to cause the processor to:
 provide at least one search method for determining the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated,   receive, from the user, a selection of the at least one search method, and   access the at least one selected search method for determining the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated, including:
 accessing a remote site for determining a name associated with the phone number; and 
 output the name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated on the mobile phone device. 
   
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 13 , further comprising logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor to cause the processor to:
 answer the incoming phone call and placing the incoming phone call into a holding state;   retrieve information associated with the phone number while the incoming phone call is in the holding state; and   output the retrieved information associated with the phone number.   
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 13 , further comprising logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor to cause the processor to provide to a remote site the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 13 , further comprising logic integrated with the processor, executable by the processor, or integrated with and executable by the processor to cause the processor to:
 determine if the phone number is associated with a name in a phonebook of the mobile phone device; and   access a remote site in response to determining that the phone number is not associated with the name in the phonebook of the mobile phone device.   
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein determining and outputting the name and additional information associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated on the mobile phone device are performed after an initiation by a user of the mobile phone device. 
     
     
         20 . A computer program, comprising:
 a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having computer program code embodied therewith, wherein the computer program code is readable by a processor, executable by the processor, or readable and executable by the processor, to cause the processor to:
 receive an incoming phone call on a mobile phone device; 
 determine a phone number from which the incoming phone call originated; and 
   provide to a user, via the mobile phone device, an option to perform a phone number search to determine a name associated with the phone number from which the incoming phone call originated.
