Floor cleaner

Abstract

A floor cleaner including a vacuum source, a base having a suction inlet, a body pivotally coupled to the base, a handle that extends from the body. The floor cleaner further includes an upper end, the handle adjacent the upper end, a lower end opposite the upper end, the base adjacent the lower end, a front side, the suction inlet adjacent the front side, a back side opposite the front side, a battery that powers the vacuum source, the battery adjacent the back side, a supply tank configured to store a cleaning fluid, the supply tank adjacent the back side, and a recovery tank configured to store the cleaning fluid drawn through the suction inlet from the surface by the vacuum source, the recovery tank adjacent the front side.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A floor cleaner comprising:
 a base including a suction inlet;   a body pivotally coupled to the base, the body including
 a first body end adjacent the base, 
 a second body end opposite the first body end, 
 a front side, the suction inlet adjacent the front side, and 
 a back side opposite the front side; 
   a vacuum source disposed in the body, the vacuum source in fluid communication with the suction inlet;   a handle that extends from the second body end of the body, the handle operable to pivot the body relative to the base; and   a battery removably coupled to the body nearer the second body end than the first body end and nearer the back side than the front side, the battery provides power to the vacuum source.   
     
     
         2 . The floor cleaner of  claim 1 , wherein the battery is removably coupled to the body adjacent the back side. 
     
     
         3 . The floor cleaner of  claim 2 , wherein the battery is removably coupled to the body adjacent the second body end. 
     
     
         4 . The floor cleaner of  claim 1 , wherein
 the handle includes
 an extension having a first extension end and a second extension end, and 
 a grip adjacent the second extension end, and 
   the first extension end is coupled to the body adjacent the second body end.   
     
     
         5 . The floor cleaner of  claim 1 , wherein the handle is coupled to the body nearer the front side than the back side. 
     
     
         6 . The floor cleaner of  claim 5 , wherein the handle is coupled to the body between the front side and the battery. 
     
     
         7 . The floor cleaner of  claim 5 , wherein
 the vacuum source includes a motor,   the handle is coupled to the body nearer than the motor to the front side, and   the motor is disposed in the body nearer than the battery to the front side.   
     
     
         8 . The floor cleaner of  claim 1 , wherein the vacuum source is disposed nearer than the battery to the base. 
     
     
         9 . The floor cleaner of  claim 1 , wherein
 the body further includes a longitudinal axis extending centrally through the first body end and the second body end, and   the battery is removable from the body in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the body.   
     
     
         10 . The floor cleaner of  claim 9 , wherein
 the handle includes
 an extension that extends from the body, the extension including
 a first extension end coupled to the body, and 
 a second extension end opposite the first extension end, 
 
 a handle axis that extends centrally through the first extension end and the second extension end, the handle axis extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body, and 
 a grip adjacent the second extension end. 
   
     
     
         11 . A floor cleaner comprising:
 a base including a suction inlet;   a body pivotally coupled to the base, the body including
 a first body end adjacent the base, and 
 a second body end opposite the first body end; 
   a vacuum source disposed in the body, the vacuum source in fluid communication with the suction inlet;   a handle coupled to the body, the handle including
 an extension that extends from the body, the extension including
 a first extension end coupled to the body, and 
 a second extension end opposite the first extension end, 
 
 a handle axis that extends centrally through the first extension end and the second extension end, and 
 a grip adjacent the second extension end; 
   a front side defined at least partially by the body;   a back side opposite the front side, the back side defined at least partially by the body; and   a battery removably coupled to the body, the battery disposed nearer than the handle axis to the back side, the battery disposed nearer the second body end than the first body end.   
     
     
         12 . The floor cleaner of  claim 11 , wherein the battery is removed from the body in a direction along the handle axis. 
     
     
         13 . The floor cleaner of  claim 12 , wherein coupling of the battery to the body is gravity-assisted. 
     
     
         14 . The floor cleaner of  claim 11 , wherein the first extension end is coupled to the body adjacent the front side. 
     
     
         15 . The floor cleaner of  claim 11 , wherein
 the vacuum source includes a motor, and   the motor is disposed nearer than the battery to the front side.   
     
     
         16 . The floor cleaner of  claim 15 , wherein
 the motor is disposed nearer than the battery to the handle axis, and   the handle axis is disposed nearer than the motor to the front side.   
     
     
         17 . The floor cleaner of  claim 15 , wherein the battery is disposed nearer than the motor to the grip. 
     
     
         18 . The floor cleaner of  claim 11 , wherein the battery is removably coupled to the body adjacent the back side. 
     
     
         19 . The floor cleaner of  claim 11 , further comprising a collection bin in fluid communication with the vacuum source, the collection bin disposed nearer than the battery to the base. 
     
     
         20 . The floor cleaner of  claim 19 , wherein the collection bin includes a recovery tank configured for storing fluid that has passed through the suction inlet.
