Abstract
A recip blade has a blade body including a cutting edge and a tang located at one end of the blade body. The tang defines an arcuate cross-sectional shape or is laminated to increase the overall thickness of the tang and, in turn, enhance the rigidity of the blade and/or reduce oscillation or whipping of the blade during cutting.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A recip blade comprising:
a substantially planar blade body comprising a cutting edge, a back edge, a first substantially planar face and a second substantially planar face opposite the first face; a tang coupled to one end of the blade body and configured to be coupled to a tool holder of a powered reciprocating saw; and at least one layer of lamination affixed to the tang, wherein the blade body and the tang are composed of a first material and the at least one layer of lamination is composed of a second material that is different from the first material.
2 . The recip blade of claim 1 , wherein the at least one layer of lamination is composed of at least one of copper, nickel, and steel.
3 . The recip blade of claim 1 , wherein the at least one layer of lamination comprises a first layer of lamination and a second layer of lamination.
4 . The recip blade of claim 3 , wherein the first layer of lamination is affixed directly to the tang and the second layer of lamination is affixed to at least one of the tang and the first layer of lamination.
5 . The recip blade of claim 3 , wherein the second layer of lamination is composed of a third material different from the second material.
6 . The recip blade of claim 5 , wherein the third material is different from the first material.
7 . The recip blade of claim 1 , wherein the tang comprises an at least partially arcuate cross-sectional shape.
8 . The recip blade of claim 7 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a C-shape.
9 . The recip blade of claim 7 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a S-shape.
10 . The recip blade of claim 7 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a first arc-shaped portion facing toward the first face of the blade body and a second arc-shaped portion facing toward the second face of the blade body.
11 . A recip blade comprising:
a substantially planar blade body comprising a cutting edge, a back edge, a first substantially planar face and a second substantially planar face opposite the first face; a tang coupled to one end of the blade body and configured to be coupled to a tool holder of a powered reciprocating saw; and at least one layer of lamination affixed to the tang.
12 . The recip blade of claim 11 , wherein the at least one layer of lamination is composed of at least one of copper, nickel, and steel.
13 . The recip blade of claim 11 , wherein the at least one layer of lamination comprises a first layer of lamination and a second layer of lamination.
14 . The recip blade of claim 13 , wherein the first layer of lamination is affixed directly to the tang and the second layer of lamination is affixed to at least one of the tang and the first layer of lamination.
15 . The recip blade of claim 13 , wherein the first layer of lamination is composed of a first material and the second layer of lamination is composed of a second material different from the first material.
16 . The recip blade of claim 11 , wherein the tang comprises an at least partially arcuate cross-sectional shape.
17 . The recip blade of claim 16 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a C-shape.
18 . The recip blade of claim 16 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a S-shape.
19 . The recip blade of claim 16 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape comprises a first arc-shaped portion facing toward the first face of the blade body and a second arc-shaped portion facing toward the second face of the blade body.
20 . The recip blade of claim 19 , wherein the at least partially arcuate shape further comprises a third arc-shaped portion facing toward the first face of the blade body, the second arc-shaped portion between the first arc-shaped portion and the second arc-shaped portion.Cited by (0)
