Abstract
Implants suitable for use in a carpometacarpal joint includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and sidewalls extending between the upper surface and the lower surface. The implant includes hydrogel material such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel. Kits can include systems for preparing an implantation site, creating a cavity, and/or deploying the implant. Methods of treating a carpometacarpal joint include deploying an implant in a recess in a carpometacarpal bone.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An implant comprising:
a hydrogel body comprising:
an upper surface comprising a saddle shape including:
a first peak;
a second peak;
a first trough laterally between the first peak and the second peak; and
a second trough laterally between the first peak and the second peak, the first peak laterally between the first trough and the second trough, the second peak laterally between the first trough and the second trough;
a planar lower surface opposite the upper surface; and
sidewalls extending between the upper surface and the lower surface.
2 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the upper surface is contoured to correspond to an outer surface of a trapezium.
3 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the body has a diameter between 4 mm and 8 mm.
4 . The implant of claim 1 , configured to be placed in a carpometacarpal joint.
5 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein the lower surface is configured to be placed in a cavity in a first metacarpal bone and wherein the upper surface is configured to abut a trapezium.
6 . The implant of claim 1 , wherein a distance between at least one of the first peak and the second peak and the planar lower surface is between 10% and 20% greater than a distance between at least one of the first trough and the second trough and the planar lower surface.Cited by (0)
