Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to articles configured as panels of artwork, methods of manufacturing the same, and methods of permanently transferring a coloring media to such articles. More particularly, the exemplary articles and methods for forming the same are configured to accept many types of coloring media on a surface thereof through use of a color-receptive layer.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An article in the form of a panel of artwork including a panel body having a front surface and a back surface, a color layer that forms a dark-colored region on and/or over a portion of said front surface which forms 2D indicia on and/or over a portion of said front surface, a color-receptive layer applied on and/or over said front surface, and 3D indicia formed in said front and back surfaces of said panel body, said color-receptive layer configured to permit transferring of a coloring media thereto, said color-receptive material including a polymeric material, said color-receptive layer formed of a material that a) allows for greater penetration of ink or paint into a surface of said color-receptive layer as compared to penetration of ink or paint into said front surface of said panel body, b) allows for greater bonding strength of said ink or paint onto said surface of said color-receptive layer as compared to bonding strength of ink or paint onto said front surface of said panel body, c) allows for said ink or paint to form a more uniform coating on said surface of said color-receptive layer as compared to uniformity of coating formation on said front surface of said panel body, and/or d) has a greater porosity and/or is more porous than said front surface of said panel body.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein the panel body is made from a metal material.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , further comprising at least one support layer applied to said back surface of said panel body.
. The article as defined in claim 3 , wherein said support layer includes a polymeric material.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein color-receptive layer at least partially covers both the 3D indicia and 2D indicia on said front surface of said panel body.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said color layer further forms a light-colored region on and/or over a portion of said front face.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said dark-colored region has as a color corresponds to Pantone® Black, Black 2, Black 2 2X, Black 3, Black 3 2X, Black 4, Black 4 2X, Black 5, Black 5 2X, Black 6, Black 6 2X, Black 7, Black 7 2X, PMS 412, PMS 419, PMS 426, PMS 433, PMS 433 2X, PMS 532, PMS 539, PMS 5395, PMS 546, PMS 5463, PMS 627, PMS 654, or PMS 655.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said panel body has a thickness of at least 0.2 mm.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said panel body has a thickness that is greater than the thickness of said color-receptive layer and/or said color layer.
. The article as defined in claim 3 , wherein said panel body has a thickness that is greater than the thickness of said the support layer.
. The article as defined in claim 3 , wherein said support layer includes a metal or polymer material.
. The article as defined in claim 3 , wherein said support layer has a thickness of less than 1 mm.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said color-receptive layer has a thickness of less than 1 mm.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said 3D indicia on said front surface of said panel body is applied to 5-90% of a surface area of said front surface.
. The article as defined in claim 1 , wherein said panel body includes rounded edges.
- 30 . (canceled)
. An article in the form of a panel of artwork, wherein said article includes a panel body having a front surface and a back surface, a color layer that forms a dark-colored region over a portion of said front surface which forms 2D indicia on and/or over a portion of said front surface, a baked color-receptive layer applied over said front surface, and 3D indicia formed in said front and back surfaces of said panel body, said panel body formed of a single sheet of metal or plastic material, said panel body having a thickness of at least at least 0.2 mm, said 3D indicia formed on 5-90% of a surface area of said front surface, said color layer formed of a different material than said baked color-receptive layer, said baked color-receptive layer formed of a polymic material that has been baked after being applied to said panel body, said color layer having a thickness of less than 1 mm, said baked color-receptive layer having a thickness of less than 1 mm, said color layer only applied to a portion of said front surface, said baked color-receptive layer applied over all regions on said front surface that are absent said color layer, said baked color-receptive layer configured to permit transferring of a coloring media thereto, said baked color-receptive layer formed of a material that a) allows for greater penetration of ink or paint into a surface of said baked color-receptive layer as compared to penetration of ink or paint into said front surface of said panel body, b) allows for greater bonding strength of said ink or paint onto said surface of said baked color-receptive layer as compared to bonding strength of ink or paint onto said front surface of said panel body, c) allows for said ink or paint to form a more uniform coating on said surface of said baked color-receptive layer as compared to uniformity of coating formation on said front surface of said panel body, and/or d) has a greater porosity and/or is more porous than said front surface of said panel body.
. The article as defied in claim 31 , said article includes a support layer applied to said front face of said panel body and heated prior to said color layer and said baked color-receptive layer being applied over a said front face of said panel body.
. The article as defied in claim 31 , wherein said color layer forms one or more dark-colored regions on said front surface, said dark-colored regions corresponds to Pantone® Black, Black 2, Black 2 2X, Black 3, Black 3 2X, Black 4, Black 4 2X, Black 5, Black 5 2X, Black 6, Black 6 2X, Black 7, Black 7 2X, PMS 412, PMS 419, PMS 426, PMS 433, PMS 433 2X, PMS 532, PMS 539, PMS 5395, PMS 546, PMS 5463, PMS 627, PMS 654, or PMS 655.
. The article as defined in claim 31 , wherein said color layer further forms a light-colored region over a portion of said front face.
. The article as defined in claim 31 , wherein said panel body includes rounded edges.
. The article as defined in claim 31 , wherein said panel includes a display arrangement positioned on said back surface.Cited by (0)
