Claims

Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to a composition and method of enhancing skin health and appearance, as well as treating compromised skin, by applying onto the skin a composition containing a moisturizing/hydrating-effective amount of a mixture of at least: (a) an oil infusion of Calendula officinalis extract; (b) an oil infusion of Helichrysum italicum extract; (c) an oil infusion of Symphytum officinale extract; (d) an aqueous infusion of Viola tricolor extract; and (e) an aqueous infusion of at least one Mallow extract chosen from Malva sylvestris extract and Althea officinalis extract; and an emulsifying-effective amount of a dermatologically-acceptable emulsifier, wherein the composition is natural and free of a skin sensitizing-effective amount of an essential oil.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A composition for application onto human skin, comprising:
 (1) a moisturizing/hydrating-effective amount of a mixture of at least:
 (a) an infusion of  Calendula officinalis  extract; 
 (b) an infusion of  Helichrysum italium  extract; 
 (c) an infusion of  Symphytum officinale  extract; 
 (d) an infusion of  Viola tricolor  extract; and 
 (e) an infusion of at least one Mallow extract; and 
   (2) a dermatologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is natural.   
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein (a) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.3 to about 0.6% by weight of  Calendula officinalis  extract and from about 1 to about 3% by weight of oil,
 wherein (b) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.9 to about 1.3% by weight of  Helichrysum italium  extract and from about 4 to about 7% by weight of oil,   (c) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.3 to about 0.6% by weight of  Symphytum officinale  extract and from about 1 to about 3% by weight of oil,   wherein (d) contains from about 2 to about 3% by weight of  Viola tricolor  extract,   wherein (e) contains from about 2 to about 3% by weight of  Althea officinalis  extract, and   wherein infusions (d) and (e) are each aqueous infusions having a total water content of from about 50 to about 70% by weight, all weights based on the total weight of the composition.   
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein (a) comprises an oil infusion containing about 0.5% by weight of  Calendula officinalis  extract and about 2% by weight of oil,
 wherein (b) comprises an oil infusion containing about 1.2% by weight of  Helichrysum italium  extract and about 4.7% by weight of oil,   wherein (c) comprises an oil infusion containing about 0.5% by weight of  Symphytum officinale  extract and about 2% by weight of oil,   wherein (d) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Viola tricolor  extract,   wherein (e) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Althea officinalis  extract, and   wherein (d) and (e) are each aqueous infusions having have a total water content of about 60% by weight, all weights based on the total weight of the composition.   
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 2 , wherein the composition is in at least one form chosen from a solution, suspension, lotion, cream, gel, spray, ointment, or serum. 
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein (e) is selected from  Malva sylvestrs  extract and  Althea officinalis  extract. 
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 1 , further comprising an emulsifying-effective amount of a dermatologically-acceptable emulsifier, and wherein the composition is free of a skin-sensitizing-effective amount of an essential oil. 
     
     
         7 . A composition for application onto human skin, comprising:
 (1) a preservative system containing:
 (a) from about 1 to about 5% by weight of a  Lactobacillus  ferment; 
 (b) from about 1 to about 5% by weight, of a  Cocos nucifera  fruit extract fermented and/or included with  Lactobacillus;    
 (c) from about 0.1 to about 0.5% by weight of at least one salt of a weak acid; and 
 (d) from about 1 to about 10% by weight of propanediol; 
   (2) a moisturizing/hydrating-effective amount of a mixture of at least:
 (f) an infusion of  Calendula officinalis  extract; 
 (g) an infusion of  Helichrysum italium  extract; 
 (h) an infusion of  Symphytum officinale  extract; 
 (i) an infusion of  Viola tricolor  extract; and 
 (j) an infusion of at least one Mallow extract chosen from  Malva sylvestris  extract and  Althea officinalis  extract; and 
   (3) a dermatologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is natural and has a pH ranging from about 4.5 to about 5.5.   
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 7 , wherein (1) further comprises about 0.2 to about 0.4% by weight salicylic acid. 
     
     
         9 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein (a) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 4% by weight, and wherein (b) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 4% by weight. 
     
     
         10 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein (c) is employed in an amount of from about 0.2 to about 0.4% by weight, and wherein (d) is 1,3-propanediol employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 8% by weight. 
     
     
         11 . The composition of  claim 7 , wherein (f) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.3 to about 0.6% by weight of  Calendula officinalis  extract and from about 1 to about 3% by weight of oil,
 wherein (g) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.9 to about 1.3% by weight of  Helichrysum italium  extract and from about 4 to about 7% by weight of oil,   wherein (h) comprises an oil infusion containing from about 0.3 to about 0.6% by weight of  Symphytum officinale  extract and from about 1 to about 3% by weight of oil,   wherein (i) contains from about 2 to about 3% by weight of  Viola tricolor  extract,   wherein (j) contains from about 2 to about 3% by weight of  Althea officinalis  extract, and   wherein (i) and (j) each comprise an aqueous infusion having a total water content of from about 50 to about 70% by weight, all weights based on the total weight of the composition.   
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein (f) contains about 0.5% by weight of  Calendula officinalis  extract and about 2% by weight of almond oil,
 wherein (g) contains about 1.2% by weight of  Helichrysum italium  extract and about 4.7% by weight of almond oil,   wherein (h) contains about 0.5% by weight of  Symphytum officinale  extract and about 2% by weight of almond oil,   wherein (i) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Viola tricolor  extract,   wherein (j) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Althea officinalis  extract, and   wherein (i) and (j) have a total water content of about 60% by weight, all weights based on the total weight of the composition.   
     
     
         13 . The composition of  claim 12 , wherein the composition has a pH of from about 4.8 to about 5.3. 
     
     
         14 . A method of enhancing skin health and appearance comprising applying onto the skin a composition comprising:
 (1) a moisturizing/hydrating-effective amount of a mixture of at least:
 (a) an infusion of  Calendula officinalis  extract; 
 (b) an infusion of  Helichrysum italium  extract; 
 (c) an infusion of  Symphytum officinale  extract; 
 (d) an infusion of  Viola tricolor  extract; and 
 (e) an infusion of at least one Mallow extract; and 
   (2) a dermatologically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is natural.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein (e) is selected from  Malva sylvestrs  extract and  Althea officinalis  extract. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the composition is free of a skin-sensitizing-effective amount of an essential oil. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein (a) comprises an oil infusion containing about 0.5% by weight of  Calendula officinalis  extract and about 2% by weight of oil,
 wherein (b) comprises an oil infusion containing about 1.2% by weight of  Helichrysum italium  extract and about 4.7% by weight of oil,   wherein (c) comprises an oil infusion containing about 0.5% by weight of  Symphytum officinale  extract and about 2% by weight of oil,   wherein (d) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Viola tricolor  extract,   wherein (e) contains about 2.5% by weight of  Althea officinalis  extract, and   wherein (d) and (e) are each aqueous infusions having a total water content of about 60% by weight, all weights based on the total weight of the composition.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the composition is in at least one form chosen from a solution, suspension, lotion, cream, gel, spray, ointment, or serum. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the composition applied to the skin further comprises:
 (3) a preservative system having:
 (f) from about 1 to about 5% by weight of a  Lactobacillus  ferment; 
 (g) from about 1 to about 5% by weight, of a  Cocos nucifera  fruit extract fermented and/or included with  Lactobacillus;    
 (h) from about 0.1 to about 0.5% by weight of at least one salt of a weak acid; and 
 (i) from about 1 to about 10% by weight of propanediol, 
   wherein the composition has a pH ranging from about 4.5 to about 5.5.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 18 , wherein (f) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 4% by weight,
 wherein (f) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 4% by weight,   wherein (g) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 4% by weight,   wherein (h) is employed in an amount of from about 0.2 to about 0.4% by weight, and   wherein (i) is employed in an amount of from about 2 to about 8% by weight.
