Nontoxic compounds for the treatment and prevention of herpesvirus infections

Abstract

Compositions for preventing or treating virus infections inhibit the biogenesis of cytoplasmic viral assembly compartment (cVAC). The preferred compounds are dihydroquinazolinones.

1 . A method of preventing or treating a virus infection in vivo or in vitro, comprising: administering to a subject in need thereof, or contacting a cell with a therapeutically effective amount of a compound set forth in Formula IV: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; 
         wherein 
         R is selected from CN, C═CH 2 , C═CH, NO 2 , COOH, esters, or heterocycle (5 membered ring, or 6 membered ring with N, O, S); 
         R′ is H; and 
         R″ is selected from H or alkyl.

         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the virus comprises herpesviruses, papilloma viruses, polyoma viruses or combinations thereof.
