Turn-up Device For a Reel-up Forming a Single Reject Part
Abstract
In a reel-up for reeling of fiber webs, a web travelling in direction (S) is cut by two water jet nozzles moving in a transverse direction. Two cuts (C 1 , C 2 ) are formed by the nozzles starting from the web edges moving to the web center where the cuts (C 1 , C 2 ) cross or meet forming a V-shaped tail end (V 1 ). After the cuts nozzle movement is stopped and after the return of the nozzles, cutting is restarted from the center toward the edges so the web W is cut by two cuts (C 3 , C 4 ) forming a substantially V-shaped beginning end (V 2 ) and between the cuts (C 1 , C 2 ) for the tail end (V 1 ) and the cuts (C 3 , C 4 ) for the beginning end (V 2 ) there is formed one web reject part (R) with two substantially V-shaped cuts. Cross-direction travel distance (L 1 , L 2 ) of each nozzle is substantially shorter than the web width.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedI claim:
1 . A turn-up device for a reel-up for reeling a fiber web, comprising:
a first water jet nozzle connected to a first source of cutting pressure; a second water jet nozzle connected to a second source of cutting pressure, wherein the first water jet nozzle and the second water jet nozzle are arranged to make a first cut of the fiber web from a first side of the fiber web and a second cut of the fiber web from a second opposed side of the fiber web toward a center area of the fiber web which is substantially equally spaced between the first side and the second side, the first cut and the second cut forming a substantially convex shaped tail of the fiber web, and the first water jet nozzle and the second water jet nozzle are arranged to make third and fourth cuts of the fiber web by returning from the center area to the first side of the fiber web and the second side of the fiber web to form a substantially convex shaped beginning of the fiber web, with a single reject part of the fiber web therebetween; wherein the first water jet nozzle and the second water jet nozzle are arranged to stop movement and cutting for a selected time between cutting the substantially convex shaped tail and cutting the substantially convex shaped beginning end of the fiber web so as to form the single reject part of the fiber web; and wherein the fiber web defines a width in a direction perpendicular to a travel direction of the fiber web, and the turn-up device for a reel-up is arranged so the first and second water jet nozzles in making the first, second, third and fourth cuts travel a distance in the width direction of the fiber web which is substantially shorter than the width of the fiber web.
2 . The turn-up device of claim 1 wherein the travel distance of the first and second nozzles in making the first, second, third and fourth cuts is between ½ and ¾ of the width of the fiber web.
3 . The turn-up device according to claim 1 wherein the travel distance of the first and second water jet nozzles in making the first, second, third and fourth cuts is ½ the width of the fiber web plus between 0.3-1.5 m.
4 . The turn-up device of claim 1 further comprising a guide for guiding to a pulper of the reel-up the reject part detached from the fiber web, and wherein the guide is connected to at least one source of air flow and wherein the guide is arranged to guide the reject part detached from the fiber web to the pulper.
5 . The turn-up device of claim 1 further comprising at least one adhesive application device for applying adhesive on the substantially convex shaped tail of the fiber web and on the substantially convex shaped beginning of the fiber web.
6 . The turn-up device of claim 1 further comprising at least one pressure break valve, guide plate, or inlet to another water line, to stop cutting when the first and second water jet nozzles are arranged to stop movement.
7 . The turn-up device of claim 1 further comprising an adhesive applicator positioned over the center area of the fiber web so as to apply adhesive to the fiber web.
8 . A turn-up device for a reel-up for reeling of fiber webs comprising:
a fiber web mounted for motion in a machine direction, the fiber web having a first edge and a second edge and therebetween a cross-machine width, the width having an imaginary center line which extends in the machine direction; a first water jet nozzle mounted for cross-machine movement to a first guide which allows travel of the first water jet nozzle from the first edge of the fiber web over the imaginary center line by 0.3 to 1 meters but not to the second edge; wherein a first source of cutting pressure is provided to the first water jet nozzle to form a first water jet; a second water jet nozzle mounted for cross-machine movement to a second guide which allows travel of the first water jet nozzle from the second edge of the fiber web over the imaginary center line by 0.3 to 1 meters but not to the first edge; wherein a second source of cutting pressure is provided to the second water jet nozzle to form a second water jet; an adhesive applicator mounted over the imaginary center line for applying adhesive on a tail end to attach the tail end onto a finished parent roll and on a beginning end to attach the beginning end onto a reeling shaft; a turn-up control means controlling the turn-up and reeling of the reel up and further functionally connected to a control and actuating means controlling the application of adhesive with the adhesive applicator; and wherein the turn-up control means is functionally connected to a control and actuation means which controls the movement, starting and stopping of waterflow to cause a first and second cutting of the first water jet and the second water jet so as to form the tail end into a convex shape and the beginning end into a convex shape with a single reject part therebetween which is detached so as to be drawn into a pulper.Cited by (0)
