Abstract

Various embodiments of the present technology generally relate to file sharing, encryption, and protection of digital assets. More specifically, some embodiments of the present technology relate to computer files comprising an unencrypted file combined with an encrypted file, and methods for creation of such combined files. The unencrypted file can be read by target applications and can present a variety of information (e.g., contact information, registration information, etc.). The encrypted data may be accessed only when the proper management software, drivers, application programming interfaces, and other components of a runtime environment have been installed on a computing device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A system comprising:
 a storage device; at least one processor operatively coupled to the storage device; and instructions stored on the storage device that, when executed by the at least one processor, direct the system to:
 stack an unencrypted file with an encrypted file; and
 combine the unencrypted file with the encrypted file to form a combined file, wherein the unencrypted file includes instructions to subscribe to a cloud-based collaboration service.

         2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the encrypted file comprises an AutoCAD file, Maya file, Blender file, 3DS Max file, Modo file, spreadsheet, or e-mail.

         3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the combined file includes a marker separating the unencrypted file from the encrypted file and indicates to a computer program reading the combined file to read the unencrypted file, but not read the encrypted file.

         4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further direct the system to:
 receive, from a client device, the encrypted file; generate the unencrypted file; and combine the unencrypted file with the encrypted file to form the single combined file in response to the encrypted file being added to a project within the cloud-based collaboration service.

         5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further direct the system to generate a hash of a file to be encrypted, assign an identifier to the file, and retrieve the encryption key to generate the encrypted file.

         6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the unencrypted file comprises contact information associated with an owner of the combined file.

         7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the contact information comprises at least a contact name and an email address or telephone number.

         8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the unencrypted file comprises instructions to determine when a runtime environment is installed on a client device and present instructions for downloading the runtime environment when the runtime environment is not installed.

         9 . A method comprising:
 generating a digital asset to be stored in a project database as a file that stacks an encrypted portion and an unencrypted portion, wherein the file indicates to a computer program reading the file to read the unencrypted portion, but not the encrypted portion.

         10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the unencrypted portion includes instructions to subscribe to a cloud-based collaboration service.

         11 . The method of claim 9 further comprising:
 receive, from a client device, the encrypted portion, the encrypted portion comprising an encrypted file;
 generating the unencrypted portion; and
 generating the digital asset in response to the encrypted portion being added to the project database within a cloud-collaboration service.

         12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the unencrypted portion comprises contact information associated with an owner of the file.

         13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the contact information comprises at least a contact name and an email address or telephone number.

         14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the unencrypted portion comprises instructions to determine when a runtime environment is installed on a client device and present instructions for downloading the runtime environment when the runtime environment is not installed.

         15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the encrypted portion comprises an AutoCAD file, Maya file, Blender file, 3DS Max file, Modo file, spreadsheet, or e-mail.

         16 . A system comprising:
 a storage device; at least one processing system operatively coupled to the storage device; and program instructions stored on the storage device to provide a collaboration service that, when executed by the at least one processor, direct the system to:
 generate, for a first collaborator device, a digital asset to be stored in a project database as a file that stacks an encrypted portion and an unencrypted portion;
 wherein the encrypted portion comprises an AutoCAD file, Maya file, Blender file, 3DS Max file, Modo file, spreadsheet, or e-mail; and
 wherein the unencrypted portion of the stacked file is readable by an application running on a second collaborator device and includes instructions to subscribe to a cloud-based collaboration service.

         17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the unencrypted portion comprises contact information associated with an owner of the file.

         18 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the contact information comprises at least a contact name and an email address or telephone number.

         19 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the unencrypted portion comprises instructions to determine when a runtime environment is installed on a client device and present instructions for downloading the runtime environment when the runtime environment is not installed.

         20 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the file includes a marker separating the unencrypted portion from the encrypted portion and indicates to a computer program reading the file to read the unencrypted portion, but not read the encrypted portion.
