Cannabinoid and menthol compositions and methods

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to compositions, including, hydrogel compositions useful as topical analgesics including cannabinoids and menthol where the menthol component can be a stabilized menthol composition comprising menthol and at least one menthol stabilizer compound including undecylenic acid methyl ester, undecylenic acid or a salt of undecylenic acid. The present disclosure also disclosure relates to compositions, including, hydrogel compositions useful as topical analgesics including cannabinoids and menthol as well as carboxymethyl cellulose, carrageenan and a cross-linking agent.

         21 . A composition, comprising:
 at least one cannabinoid; and   a stabilized menthol composition including a pre-formed mixture of menthol and at least one menthol stabilizer compound including undecylenic acid methyl ester, undecylenic acid or a salt of undecylenic acid, wherein the stabilized menthol composition includes a ratio of about 1 molar part menthol to from about 0.005 molar part to about 1.0 molar part of the at least one menthol stabilizer compound.   
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid includes CBD. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid includes full spectrum hemp oil. 
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid is in an amount of from about 1 wt % to about 20 wt % and the percentage amount is based on the total weight of the therapeutic composition. 
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein menthol is in an amount of from about 0.05 wt % to about 20 wt % and the percentage amount is based on the total weight of the therapeutic composition. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the stabilized menthol composition further includes a pharmaceutically acceptable suitable solvent. 
     
     
         27 . A composition, comprising:
 a biocompatible polymer;   a polyalcohol,   at least one cannabinoid; and   a stabilized menthol composition including a pre-formed mixture of menthol and at least one menthol stabilizer compound including undecylenic acid methyl ester, undecylenic acid or a salt of undecylenic acid, wherein the stabilized menthol composition includes a ratio of about 1 molar part menthol to from about 0.005 molar part to about 1.0 molar part of the at least one menthol stabilizer compound.   
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid includes CBD. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid includes full spectrum hemp oil. 
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the at least one cannabinoid is in an amount of from about 1 wt % to about 20 wt % and the percentage amount is based on the total weight of the therapeutic composition. 
     
     
         31 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein menthol is in an amount of from about 0.05 wt % to about 20 wt % and the percentage amount is based on the total weight of the therapeutic composition. 
     
     
         32 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the stabilized menthol composition further includes a pharmaceutically acceptable suitable solvent. 
     
     
         33 . The therapeutic composition of  claim 27 , wherein the biocompatible polymer is sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. 
     
     
         34 . The therapeutic composition of  claim 27 , wherein the polyalcohol is glycerin. 
     
     
         35 . The composition of  claim 27 , further including a second biocompatible polymer and a cross-linking agent. 
     
     
         36 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the stabilized menthol composition further includes a pharmaceutically acceptable suitable solvent. 
     
     
         37 . A method of treating pain of a patient using a therapeutic composition, the therapeutic composition comprising:
 at least one cannabinoid; and   a stabilized menthol composition including a pre-formed mixture of menthol and at least one menthol stabilizer compound including undecylenic acid methyl ester, undecylenic acid or a salt of undecylenic acid, wherein the stabilized menthol composition includes a ratio of about 1 molar part menthol to from about 0.005 molar part to about 1.0 molar part of the at least one menthol stabilizer compound,   wherein the therapeutic composition includes a pain reducing effective amount of at least one of the menthol and the at least one cannabinoid,   the method comprising administering the therapeutic composition to the patient.   
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the therapeutic composition further includes a biocompatible polymer and a polyalcohol. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein administering the therapeutic composition includes topically administering the therapeutic composition. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein administering the therapeutic composition includes topically administering the therapeutic composition to an oral cavity surface of the patient.
