Claims

Abstract

The present invention related to the field of organ transplantation. In one aspect, the present invention provides methods of treating an organ transplant recipient comprising administering to the recipient a therapeutically effective amount of a stem cell mobilizer and an immunosuppressive agent. In particular embodiments, the present invention provides a method of treating an organ transplant recipient comprising administering to the recipient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that mobilizes CD34+ and/or CD133+ stem cells and a low dose of immunosuppressive agent.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . A method of treating an organ transplant recipient comprising administering to the recipient a therapeutically effective amount of a stem cell mobilizer and an immunosuppressive agent. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the organ is selected from the group consisting of liver, kidney, skin, heart, lung, intestine, and pancreas. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the organ is liver, kidney and/or skin. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the stem cell mobilizer is selected from the group consisting of AMD3100, AMD3465, TG-0054, G-CSF, GM-CSF, SDF-1, and SCF. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the stem cell mobilizer is a CXCR4 antagonist. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the stem cell mobilizer is AMD3100. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the immunosuppressive agent is selected from the group consisting of Tacrolimus, cyclosporine, Orthoclone OKT3, mycophenolate, and sirolimus. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the immunosuppressive agent is administered in a low dose amount. 
     
     
         10 . A method of treating a patient diagnosed with ischemic injury or a tissue or organ transplant recipient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a stem cell mobilizer and an immunosuppressive agent. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the stem cell mobilizer is ANID3100. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the stem cell mobilizer is ANID3100 and the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus.
