Compositions for temporarily enhancing the luster and brilliance of jewelry and gem stones and methods for making and using same

Abstract

Compositions for enhancing the luster and/or brilliance of jewelry and/or gem stones comprising a non-aqueous carrier and optionally additives and/or fragrances, and methods for making and using same.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A composition comprising:
 100 vol. % of a non-aqueous carrier comprising one or more one or more fatty acids, one or more glycerides, one or more essential oils, one or more hydrocarbons, one or more petroleum oils, or mixtures thereof.   
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier and/or   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier comprises:
 100 vol. % of the one or more one or more fatty acids,   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier, and   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier comprises:
 100% of the one or more glycerides,   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier, and   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier comprises:
 100% of the one or more essential oils,   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier, and   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier comprises:
 100% of the one or more hydrocarbons,   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier, and   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         7 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier comprises:
 100% of the one or more petroleum oils,   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of a solid or liquid fragrance based on 100 vol. % of the carrier, and   between about 0.01 wt. % or vol. % and about 5 wt. % or vol. % of one or more phospholipids, one or more amphoteric glycinates, one or more amphoteric imidazolines, one or more amphoteric propionates, one or more other amphoteric agents, one or more anionic surfactants, one or more cationic surfactants, one or more non-ionic surfactants, one or more zwitterionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof based on 100 vol. % of the carrier.   
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the fatty acids are selected from the group consisting of saturated fatty acid, unsaturated fatty acids, or mixtures or combinations thereof suitable for topical use on humans or animals. 
     
     
         9 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the fatty acids include short chain free fatty acids (SCFFA) comprise C 4 -C 7  fatty acids, medium chain free fatty acids (MCFFA) comprise C 8  to C 13  fatty acids, long chain free fatty acids (LCFFA) comprise C 14 -C 23  fatty acids, very-long-chain free fatty acids (VLCFFA) comprise >C 24  fatty acids, or mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the glycerides include:
 mono-glycerides comprising mono-glycerol esters, wherein the ester group comprises a fatty acid,   di-glyceride comprising di-glycerol esters, wherein the esters independently comprises one or more fatty acids,   triglycerides comprising tri-glycerol esters, wherein the esters independently comprise one or more fatty acids, or   mixtures thereof.   
     
     
         11 . The composition of  claim 10 , wherein the glycerides comprise vegetable/plant oils, animal fats, animal oils, or mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the vegetable oils are selected from the group consisting of amaranth oil, almond oil, apricot oil, argan oil, artichoke oil, avocado oil, babassu oil, ben oil, borneo tallow nut oil, buffalo gourd oil, canola oil, carob pod oil, algaroba oil, cashew oil, coconut oil, coriander seed oil, corn oil, false flax oil, grape seed oil, hazlenut oil, hemp oil, hibiscus seed oil, kapok seed oil, lallemantia oil, macadamia oil, meadowfoam seed oil, mustard oil, okra seed oil, olive oil, palm oil, peanut oil, pecan oil, perilla seed oil, pequi oil, pine nut oil, pistachio oil, poppyseed oil, prune kernel oil, pumpkin seed oil, quinoa oil, ramtil oil, rapeseed oil, rice bran oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, tea oil, camellia oil, thistle oil, walnut oil, wheat germ oil, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         13 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the animal fats are selected from the group consisting of lard, duck fat, butter, other animal fats, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         14 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the hydrocarbons are selected from the group consisting of alkanes having between six and 30 carbon atoms, alkenes between six and 30 carbon atoms, alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons having between 10 and 30 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof, where one or more of the carbon atoms may be replaced by an nitrogen, an oxygen, a sulfur atom, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         15 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the petroleum oils selected from the group consisting of higher alkanes derived from distilled petroleum, polyalphaolefins, mineral spirits, or mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         16 . The composition of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the phospholipids selected include (1) diacylglyceride phospholipids or glycerophospholipids include, without limitation, phosphatidic acid (phosphatidate) (PA), phosphatidylethanolamine (cephalin) (PE), phosphatidylcholine (lecithin) (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphoinositides such as phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP), phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate (PIP2) and phosphatidylinositol triphosphate (PIP3), and (2) phosphosphingolipids such as ceramide phosphorylcholine (Sphingomyelin) (SPH),ceramide phosphorylethanolamine (Sphingomyelin) (Cer-PE), ceramide phosphorylglycerol, or mixtures thereof;   the amphoteric acetates include lauroarnphoacetate, alkyl amphoacetate, cocoampho(di)acetate, cocoarnphoacetate, cocoamphodiacetate, disodium          17 . A method of applying a composition of  claim 1  to a piece of jewelry and/or a gem stone to temporarily enhance the luster and/or brilliance of the piece of jewelry and/or the gem stone.
