Abstract

Dermal filler compositions can comprise hyaluronic acid and a conjugated vitamin C derivative. The compositions can provide for extended release of active vitamin C into tissue, which can promote collagenesis and other benefits to skin.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of treating skin of a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the skin of the subject a dermal filler composition comprising a crosslinked hyaluronic acid and an agent covalently conjugated to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid, wherein the agent is selected from a vitamin, an antioxidant, a growth factor, or a peptide.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises treating wrinkles, scars, skin defects or a skin condition in the subject.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hyaluronic acid comprises a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight of between about 300 K Daltons and about 500 K Daltons.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hyaluronic acid comprises at least 80% w/w of a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight of between about 300 K Daltons and about 500 K Daltons.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hyaluronic acid comprises at least 90% w/w of a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight of between about 300 K Daltons and about 500 K Daltons.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hyaluronic acid comprises no more than about 20% w/w of a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight of between about 1.0 M Dalton and about 3.0 M Daltons.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the hyaluronic acid comprises no more than about 10% w/w of a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid having a molecular weight of between about 1.0 M Dalton and about 3.0 M Daltons.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermal filler composition has a degree of conjugation of between about 3 mol % and about 40 mol %.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermal filler composition has a degree of conjugation of between about 3 mol % and about 15 mol %.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the agent is conjugated to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid by etherification, amidization, or esterification.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the agent is conjugated to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid via a conjugation agent.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the agent is directly conjugated to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the agent is directly conjugated to the hyaluronic acid via 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide (EDC).

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vitamin is selected from a vitamin C, a retinoid, or a vitamin E.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the antioxidant is selected from dimethylaminoethanol, catalase, a polyol, a flavonoid, a phytoalexin, an ascorbic acid agent, a tocopherol, a tocotrienol, a lipoic acid, a melatonin, and a carotenoid.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the growth factor is selected from epidermal growth factor (EGF) or transforming growth factor (TGF).

17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the peptide is selected from a microcollagen pentapeptide, keratin, or elastin.

18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermal filler composition further comprises an anesthetic agent.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the anesthetic agent is lidocaine.
