Abstract
A degradable plug for use in a wellbore, wherein the degradable plug involves an inducibly degradable composition containing solid polyacetal. After placing the degradable plug in a wellbore, it can be degraded by allowing a portion of the polyacetal present in the inducibly degradable composition to react with an inducer.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
. A degradable plug for use in a wellbore, wherein the degradable plug comprises an inducibly degradable composition comprising solid polyacetal.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the polyacetal has a crystallinity in the range of from 75% to 85%.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the polyacetal is a co-polymer of trioxane and ethylene oxide.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the polyacetal is present in the inducibly degradable composition as a coating on a surface of the plug.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the inducibly degradable composition further comprises sulfur dioxide.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the inducibly degradable composition further comprises a sulfur dioxide precursor.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the wellbore comprises an inducer capable of reacting with the inducibly degradable composition.
. The degradable plug of claim 7 , wherein the inducer comprises a strong acid.
. The degradable plug of claim 1 , wherein the plug is coated with a sulfur dioxide precursor.
. A method comprising: placing a degradable plug in a wellbore, the degradable plug comprising an inducibly degradable composition comprising solid polyacetal.
. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: degrading the inducibly degradable composition.
. The method of claim 11 , wherein degrading the inducibly degradable composition comprises allowing a portion of the polyacetal present in the inducibly degradable composition to react with an inducer.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein producing an alpha hydroxy sulfonic acid.
. The method of claim 11 , wherein degrading the inducibly degradable composition comprises allowing a portion of the polyacetal present in the inducibly degradable composition to react with an inducer by an autocatalytic reaction.
. The method of claim 14 , wherein producing an alpha hydroxy sulfonic acid.
. The method of claim 11 , wherein the inducer comprises sulfur dioxide.
. The method of claim 11 , wherein the inducer comprises a sulfur dioxide precursor.
. The method of claim 11 , wherein allowing a portion of the polyacetal present in the inducibly degradable composition to react with a strong acid.
. The method of claim 18 , wherein the portion of polyacetal present in the inducibly degradable composition degrades to produce formaldehyde.
. The method of claim 10 , wherein the plug is coated with a sulfur dioxide precursor.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
