Abstract

A two-tier display infrastructure switching architecture and associated method interconnects a plurality of network-enabled display devices. A video streaming switch is capable of receiving a video stream from a first network-enabled display device and forwarding the video stream to a second network-enabled display device. An access control service is capable of controlling access rights of each of the first and second network-enabled display devices to transfer video streams stream through the video streaming switch.

         19 . A method for arranging smart video streams by a network-enabled display device, comprising:
 receiving smart video streams comprising video and metadata stream pairs from one or more client devices;   transmitting one or more of the smart video streams to a video arrangement processor;   processing, using an algorithm implemented by the video arrangement processor to automatically arrange display of the one or more smart video streams by the network-enabled display device, the video and metadata streams to determine a stream transform;   sending the stream transform from the video arrangement processor to the network-enabled display device; and   modifying display of the video stream based on the stream transform.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises changing a position of a video stream. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises changing a scale of the video stream. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises changing a rotation of the video stream. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises a horizontal translation of the video stream based on computing a mean intensity of the video stream. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises at least one of changing a transparency or a display depth of the video stream. 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the stream transform further comprises adding a border to the video stream. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the video arrangement processor detects a change in a video stream and the stream transform further comprises changing a scale of the video stream. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the metadata further comprises geographic location of a client device and the stream transform further comprises grouping video streams by geographic location. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the metadata further comprises ownership of a video stream and processing the video and metadata streams further comprises:
 determining ownership of each of a plurality of video streams displayed on the network-enabled display device based upon metadata of the video stream;   displaying, on the network-enabled display device, an icon representing each different owner of the video streams;   graphically indicating ownership of displayed video streams owned by one owner corresponding to a selected one of the icons.   
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the video arrangement processor further comprises one or more stream mapping modules, the method further comprising:
 controlling the one or more stream mapping modules in accordance with control signals in a metadata stream.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the control signals cause a stream mapping module to be activated or deactivated. 
     
     
         31 . A network-enabled display device for displaying smart video streams from one or more client devices, comprising:
 a screen for displaying one or more smart video streams, said smart video streams further comprising video stream and metadata stream pairs;   a local network display module for controlling the screen;   a video arrangement processor, the video arrangement processor further comprising one or more stream mapping modules for receiving the smart video streams from the one or more client devices and outputting one or more stream transforms to the local network display module.   
     
     
         32 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the stream transform further comprises at least one of changing a position, a scale or a rotation of a video stream. 
     
     
         33 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the stream transform further comprises a horizontal translation of the video stream based on computing a mean intensity of the video stream. 
     
     
         34 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the stream transform further comprises changing at least one of a transparency or a display depth of the video stream. 
     
     
         35 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the stream transform further comprises adding a border to the video stream. 
     
     
         36 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the video arrangement processor detects a change in a video stream and the stream transform further comprises changing a scale of the video stream. 
     
     
         37 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the metadata further comprises geographic location of a client device and the stream transform further comprises grouping video streams by geographic location. 
     
     
         38 . The network-enabled display device of  claim 31 , wherein the metadata stream further comprises one or more control signals for controlling the one or more stream mapping modules.
