Anchoring system and method for securing a suture to a pre-drilled bore
Abstract
An anchoring system can use an implant delivery device to deploy an implant into a pre-drilled bore, to secure one or more sutures between a threaded outer surface of an implant body and a wall of the bore. The implant delivery device can controllably rotate the implant about its longitudinal axis. The implant can further include a distal member positioned distal to the implant body and freely rotatable about the longitudinal axis. The implant delivery device can include a finger extending distally from a distal end of an inner shaft. The implant delivery device can controllably translate a wire between a distally extended position, at which the wire can form a closed loop with the finger and a distal end of the inner shaft, and a proximally retracted position, at which the wire can be at least partially retracted into the distal end of the inner shaft.

21 . A surgical device for capturing suture, comprising:
a cannulated outer shaft extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal end to a distal end; an inner shaft received in the cannulated outer shaft, wherein the inner shaft is moveable through the outer shaft from a retracted position to an extended position where a distal end portion of the inner shaft is extendable distally beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein the distal end portion of the inner shaft includes a projection that has a lateral curve back toward the longitudinal axis; and a member extendible beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein the member and the projection form at least part of a closed loop to capture the one or more sutures.
22 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the member comprises one of a wire, rod or tube, and wherein the second member is translatable from a retracted position to an extended position.
23 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the projection is initially laterally offset from the longitudinal axis at a proximal portion and has the lateral curve back toward the longitudinal axis at a distal portion.
24 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the projection curves from a first lateral edge of the inner shaft toward a second lateral edge of the inner shaft, opposite the first lateral edge.
25 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the projection has a smaller cross-section than a proximal portion of the inner shaft, when viewed in cross-section and end-on from a distal end of the surgical device.
26 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the member extends parallel to the projection at a proximal portion of the projection and is shaped along a distal portion thereof so that when actuated the member contacts the projection to form the at least part of the closed loop.
27 . The surgical device of claim 21 , wherein the member has one or more slots, apertures or the like therein to make the member more flexible.
28 . A surgical device for trapping one or more sutures, comprising:
a cannulated outer shaft extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal end to a distal end; an inner shaft received in the cannulated outer shaft, wherein the inner shaft is moveable through the outer shaft from a retracted position to an extended position where a distal end portion of the inner shaft is extendable distally beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein a distal end of the inner shaft comprises a projection that is offset toward a first lateral edge of the inner shaft; and a member extendible beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein, in combination, the member and the projection form at least part of a closed loop to trap the one or more sutures.
29 . The surgical device of claim 28 , wherein the projection is initially laterally offset from the longitudinal axis at a proximal portion and curves back toward the longitudinal axis at a distal portion.
30 . The surgical device of claim 28 , wherein the projection curves from the first lateral edge of the inner shaft toward a second lateral edge of the inner shaft, opposite the first lateral edge.
31 . The surgical device of claim 28 , wherein the projection has a smaller cross-section than a proximal portion of the inner shaft, when viewed in cross-section and end-on from a distal end of the surgical device.
32 . The surgical device of claim 28 , wherein the member extends parallel to the projection at a proximal portion of the projection and is shaped along a distal portion thereof so that, when actuated, the member contacts the projection to form the at least part of the closed loop.
33 . A surgical device for capturing suture, comprising:
a cannulated outer shaft extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal end to a distal end; an inner shaft received in the cannulated outer shaft, wherein the inner shaft is moveable through the outer shaft from a retracted position to an extended position where a distal end portion of the inner shaft is extendable distally beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein the distal end portion of the inner shaft includes a projection that is initially laterally offset from the longitudinal axis at a more proximal portion and has a lateral curve back toward the longitudinal axis at a distal portion; and a member extendible beyond the distal end of the outer shaft, wherein the member and the projection form at least part of a closed loop to capture the one or more sutures.
34 . The surgical device of claim 33 , wherein the projection curves from a first lateral edge of the inner shaft toward a second lateral edge of the inner shaft, opposite the first lateral edge.
35 . The surgical device of claim 33 , wherein the projection has a smaller cross-section than a proximal portion of the inner shaft, when viewed in cross-section and end-on from a distal end of the surgical device.
36 . The surgical device of claim 28 , wherein the member extends parallel to the projection at a proximal portion of the projection and is shaped along a distal portion thereof so that, when actuated, the member contacts the projection to form the at least part of the closed loop.
