Abstract
This document relates to materials and methods for circulatory bypass of a ventricle in the heart of a mammal. For example, materials and methods for bypassing a permanently or temporarily impaired left ventricle in the heart of a mammal (e.g., a human) are provided.

A method for implanting an assist device into a mammal, wherein said method comprises inserting a pump having a pump inflow and a pump outflow into a position, wherein said pump inflow is located within a first compartment in the cardiovascular system of said mammal, said pump outflow is within a second compartment in said cardiovascular system, and said pump passing from said first compartment into said second compartment.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said pump comprises a tubular core.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said mammal is a human.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said first compartment is the aorta and said second compartment is the left atrium.
6 . An assist device for improving blood flow in a mammal, wherein said cardiac assist device comprises a pump having a pump inflow and a pump outflow, wherein said pump inflow is adapted to be positioned within a first compartment in the cardiovascular system of said mammal, said pump outflow is adapted to be positioned within a second compartment in said cardiovascular system, and wherein said pump is configured to pass from said first compartment into said second compartment.
7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein said mammal is a human.
8 . The device of claim 6 , wherein said pump comprises a tubular core.
