Claims

Abstract

The disclosed embodiments include a method for presenting video information. The method includes: (1) receiving user identification of a first spatial zone corresponding to a first portion of the field of view of a remote camera; (2) displaying a first outline in a first color for the first spatial zone overlaid on a visual image; (3) receiving second user identification of a second spatial zone corresponding to a second portion of the field of view of the remote camera; (4) displaying a second outline in a second color for the second spatial zone overlaid on the visual image; and (5) displaying a visual indicator indicating that motion was detected in at least one spatial zone, the visual indicator having a color corresponding to the spatial zone in which the motion was detected.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for video reproduction of a remotely captured video feed output by a video camera, the method comprising:
 displaying a video monitoring user interface on a display of a client device located remotely from the video camera, the video monitoring user interface including: (i) a first region displaying a live and/or recorded video feed from the video camera, and (ii) a second region displaying an event timeline, wherein:
 the event timeline includes: (i) a plurality of equally spaced time indicators each indicating a specific time, and (ii) a current video feed indicator indicating a temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
 the event timeline includes a past time corresponding to the recorded video feed from the video camera and a current time corresponding to the live video feed from the video camera; and 
 the current video feed indicator is movable relative to the equally spaced time indicators to facilitate a change in the temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
   displaying on the event timeline one or more event indicators corresponding to one or more motion events previously detected in the live video feed;   in response to a user selection of the event timeline at a past time temporal position:
 obtaining a recorded video feed that was recorded at the selected past time temporal position; and 
 displaying the obtained recorded video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface; and 
   in response to a user selection of the event timeline at the current time temporal position, displaying the live video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the video monitoring user interface further includes a third region having a list of one or more of event categories or created zones of interest associated with the one or more events, and wherein each category in the list is created for a respective type of motion event. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the third region further includes, for each event category, an option for enabling user notification for events of the respective event category. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the third region further includes, for each event category, an indication of a unique display characteristic corresponding to the respective event category. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the third region further includes, for each event category, an option for disabling display of events of the respective event category on the event timeline. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more events is assigned to a respective category in a list of categories, and represented on the event timeline by a respective event indicator having a unique display characteristic corresponding to the respective event category. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the live video feed includes a zone of created on a field of view of the video camera, the method further comprising:
 in response to detecting a new event in the zone of interest in the live video feed, displaying, for the new event, a new event indicator on the event timeline, wherein the new event indicator is displayed with a unique display characteristic corresponding to the zone of interest.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the live video feed includes a plurality of event zones created on a field of view of the video camera, the method further comprising:
 in response to detecting, in the live video feed, a new event in at least one event zone of the plurality of event zones, displaying, for the new event, a new event indicator on the event timeline, wherein the new event indicator is displayed with a unique display characteristic corresponding to the at least one event zone of the plurality of event zones.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein each of the one or more event indicators has a respective width configured to represent a duration of the corresponding event. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the video camera prioritizes uploading of video segments corresponding to the one or more events ahead of video segments that do not contain any event. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein, when the past time temporal position corresponds to a video segment that does not contain any of the one or more events, the video segment is not available for display in the first region of the video monitoring user interface. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 when the past time temporal position is associated with one of the one or more event indicators, the recorded video feed that is obtained and displayed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface has a first quality; and   when the past time temporal position is not associated with any of the one or more event indicators, the recorded video feed that is obtained and displayed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface has a second quality lower than the first quality.   
     
     
         13 . A computing system, comprising:
 one or more processors;   a display; and   a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium configured to store instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
 output, for display by the display, a video monitoring user interface on a display of a client device located remotely from the video camera, the video monitoring user interface including: (i) a first region displaying a live and/or recorded video feed from the video camera, and (ii) a second region displaying an event timeline, wherein:
 the event timeline includes: (i) a plurality of equally spaced time indicators each indicating a specific time, and (ii) a current video feed indicator indicating a temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
 the event timeline includes a past time corresponding to the recorded video feed from the video camera and a current time corresponding to the live video feed from the video camera; and 
 the current video feed indicator is movable relative to the equally spaced time indicators to facilitate a change in the temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
 
 output, for display by the display, on the event timeline one or more event indicators corresponding to one or more motion events previously detected in the live video feed; 
 in response to a user selection of the event timeline at a past time temporal position:
 obtain a recorded video feed that was recorded at the selected past time temporal position; and 
 output, for display by the display, the obtained recorded video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface; and 
 
 in response to a user selection of the event timeline at the current time temporal position, output, for display by the display, the live video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface. 
   
     
     
         14 . The computing system of  claim 13 , wherein:
 the video monitoring user interface further includes a third region having a list of one or more of event categories or created zones of interest associated with the one or more events; and   each category in the list is created for a respective type of motion event.   
     
     
         15 . The computing system of  claim 14 , wherein the third region further includes, for each event category, one or more of 1) an option for enabling user notification for events of the respective event category, 2) an indication of a unique display characteristic corresponding to the respective event category, or 3) an option for disabling display of events of the respective event category on the event timeline. 
     
     
         16 . The computing system of  claim 13 , wherein each of the one or more events is assigned to a respective category in a list of categories, and represented on the event timeline by a respective event indicator having a unique display characteristic corresponding to the respective event category. 
     
     
         17 . The computing system of  claim 13 , wherein the live video feed includes a zone of created on a field of view of the video camera, and wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:
 in response to detecting a new event in the zone of interest in the live video feed, output, for display by the display, a new event indicator for the new event on the event timeline, wherein the new event indicator is displayed with a unique display characteristic corresponding to the zone of interest.   
     
     
         18 . The computing system of  claim 13 , wherein the live video feed includes a plurality of event zones created on a field of view of the video camera, and wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:
 in response to detecting, in the live video feed, a new event in at least one event zone of the plurality of event zones, output, for display by the display, a new event indicator for the new event on the event timeline, wherein the new event indicator is displayed with a unique display characteristic corresponding to the at least one event zone of the plurality of event zones.   
     
     
         19 . The computing system of  claim 13 , wherein:
 when the past time temporal position is associated with one of the one or more event indicators, the recorded video feed that is obtained and displayed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface has a first quality; and   when the past time temporal position is not associated with any of the one or more event indicators, the recorded video feed that is obtained and displayed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface has a second quality lower than the first quality.   
     
     
         20 . A computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which, when executed by a computing system with one or more processors, cause the computing system to:
 output, for display by a display, a video monitoring user interface on a display of a client device located remotely from the video camera, the video monitoring user interface including: (i) a first region displaying a live and/or recorded video feed from the video camera, and (ii) a second region displaying an event timeline, wherein:
 the event timeline includes: (i) a plurality of equally spaced time indicators each indicating a specific time, and (ii) a current video feed indicator indicating a temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
 the event timeline includes a past time corresponding to the recorded video feed from the video camera and a current time corresponding to the live video feed from the video camera; and 
 the current video feed indicator is movable relative to the equally spaced time indicators to facilitate a change in the temporal position of the video feed displayed in the first region; 
   output, for display by the display, on the event timeline one or more event indicators corresponding to one or more motion events previously detected in the live video feed;   in response to a user selection of the event timeline at a past time temporal position:   obtain a recorded video feed that was recorded at the selected past time temporal position; and   output, for display by the display, the obtained recorded video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface; and   in response to a user selection of the event timeline at the current time temporal position, output, for display by the display, the live video feed in the first region of the video monitoring user interface.
