Abstract

Compounds and methods involving inhibition of the enzymatic activity of QSOX1. The compounds and methods can be used in treatment of neoplastic cells, for example, to suppress tumor growth and invasion in a variety of cancers, including but not limited to myeloma and cancers of the breast, kidney, and pancreas.

         2 . A pharmaceutical composition for topical administration, comprising:

         (SBI-183), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; and 
         (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for topical application. 
       
     
     
         3 . A method of treating melanoma, the method comprising administering to a subject having melanoma an effective amount of compound SBI-183: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
       
     
     
         4 . A method of inhibiting growth of a neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1), the method comprising contacting the cell with an effective amount of compound SBI-183: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
       
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a breast cancer cell. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a myeloma cancer cell. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a pancreatic cancer cell. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a renal cancer cell. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a melanoma cancer cell. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the neoplastic cell that over-expresses Quiescin Sulfhydryl Oxidase 1 (QSOX1) is a prostate cancer cell. 
     
     
         11 . the method of  claim 4 , wherein the method comprises contacting the cell in vitro.
