Abstract

A transponder-reader payment system includes an RFID reader for interrogating a transponder and an RFID transponder device. The RFID reader receives, from the RFID transponder device, a code that is associated with a first funding source and a second funding source. The RFID reader communicates a request associated with a transaction to a payment processor. The request includes the code and the transaction is funded using the first funding source and the second funding source associated with the code. In one embodiment, the transaction is funded according to a funding account protocol associated with the code.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A Radio Frequency (RF) customer payment device, comprising:
an RF transponder configured to receive a customer payment device interrogation signal from an RF identification (RFID) reader, wherein the customer payment device interrogation signal includes a random code generated by the RFID reader; a database comprising a unique customer payment device encryption key and information identifying one or more transaction accounts with which the customer payment device is associated; a biometric sensor configured to detect a proffered biometric sample to create biometric sample data; and a customer payment device authentication circuit configured to be enabled in response to the biometric sample data matching authenticated biometric sample data, to communicate with the database; wherein the RF transponder is configured to transmit the information identifying one or more transaction accounts with which the customer payment device is associated to the RFID reader.

2 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the proffered biometric sample comprises a biometric sample characteristic including fingerprints.

3 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the proffered biometric sample comprises a biometric sample characteristic including reference points.

4 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the proffered biometric sample comprises a biometric sample characteristic including nodal points.

5 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the proffered biometric sample comprises a biometric sample characteristic including size.

6 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the proffered biometric sample comprises a biometric sample characteristic including shape.

7 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the biometric sensor includes a fingerprint sensor.

8 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the biometric sensor includes a voice print sensor.

9 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the biometric sensor includes a facial sensor.

10 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the RF customer payment device is a cellphone.

11 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the RF customer payment device is a watch.

12 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the RF customer payment device is further configured to permit a customer to select a desired funding source and the information identifying one or more transaction accounts with which the customer payment device is associated that the RF transponder is configured to transmit comprises information concerning a selected desired funding source.

13 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , wherein the RF customer payment device is further configured with a funding protocol and the information identifying one or more transaction accounts with which the customer payment device is associated that the RF transponder is configured to transmit comprises information concerning a funding source determined according to the funding protocol.

14 . The RF customer payment device of claim 13 , wherein the funding protocol designates a primary funding source for transactions and includes guidelines for automatically changing to a secondary funding source when a requested transaction amount meets or exceeds an available value of the primary funding source.

15 . The RF customer payment device of claim 13 , wherein the funding protocol designates both a primary funding source and a secondary funding source for use with transactions.

16 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , further comprising a visual display configured to display an indication that a transaction has been initiated.

17 . The RF customer payment device of claim 16 , wherein the visual display is further configured to display an indication that the transaction is being processed.

18 . The RF customer payment device of claim 17 , wherein the visual display is further configured to display an indication that the transaction has been denied.

19 . The RF customer payment device of claim 17 , wherein the visual display is further configured to display an indication that the transaction has been approved.

20 . The RF customer payment device of claim 1 , further comprising an aural indicator configured to provide an indication of a transaction status.
