Synchronizing a display of an automated teller machine with a display of a mobile device
Abstract
Exemplary embodiments may enable synchronization of a display of a mobile computing device with a display of an ATM. The displays first may be synched when a user positions the mobile computing device in proximity to the ATM. Near field communication (NFC) initially may be used when the mobile phone is in proximity with the ATM. Once the communication connection has been realized, the displays may be synchronized to reflect the connection. After the NFC connection has been realized, a cellular connection between a user's mobile computing device with a server having a secure connection with the ATM may be established. One or more financial transactions may be initiated with the ATM from the mobile computing device via the cellular connection. The display of the mobile computing device and the ATM may remain synched during the one or more financial transactions.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
detecting proximity of a mobile computing device to an automated teller machine (ATM) with a processor of the mobile computing device; based on the detected proximity, displaying a graphic on a display of the mobile computing device with the processor, the graphic indicating proximity of the mobile computing device to the ATM; with the processor updating a characteristic of the graphic displayed as the mobile computing device as the mobile computing device is moved in closer proximity to the ATM to indicate the closer proximity; initiating with a wireless communication session with the ATM from a processor of the mobile computing device with the processor of the mobile computing device, initiating a financial transaction with the ATM from the mobile computing device; updating the display of the mobile computing device with the processor to show progress of the transaction; and when the transaction is complete, with the processor of the mobile computing device, updating the display of the mobile computing device to indicate that the transaction is complete.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising when the wireless communication session is complete, updating the display of the mobile computing device to indicate that the wireless communication session is complete.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile computing device includes an application program for communicating with the ATM via a cellular network.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the application program is executed and wherein the financial transaction is initiated by the application program that provides a user interface for a user to initiate the financial transaction.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein initiating the wireless communication session comprises scanning an optical code associated with the ATM.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile computing device sends a communication to a server via a cellular network to initiate the financial transaction in the initiating of the financial transaction with the ATM, wherein the server has a secured connection with the ATM.
8 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
detecting proximity of a mobile computing device to an automated teller machine (ATM) with a processor of the ATM; engaging in a wireless communication with the mobile computing device via a wireless protocol, wherein the wireless protocol requires proximity between the mobile computing device and the ATM; with the processor, causing a display on a display device of the ATM a visual cue indicating that the ATM and the mobile computing device are communicating via the wireless protocol in that a portion of a shared graphic is displayed on the display device of the ATM while another portion of the shared graphic is displayed on a corresponding display of the mobile computing device; under control of the processor, communicating with the mobile computing device over a cellular network to establish a connection between the ATM and the mobile computing device; with the processor, causing updating of the display device of the ATM to indicate that the ATM and the mobile computing device are connected; receiving a communication that the mobile computing device wishes to initiate a financial transaction via the ATM; initiating the financial transaction via the processor; synching the display device of the ATM via the processor with the display of the mobile computing device for the financial transaction; and when the transaction is complete, with the processor, updating the display device of the ATM to indicate that the transaction is complete.
9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising receiving an indication that the mobile computing device is no longer interacting with the ATM and updating the display of the ATM to reflect that the mobile computing device is no longer interacting with the ATM.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the detecting of the proximity of the mobile computing device comprises detecting that the mobile computing device is within range of an NFC transceiver of the ATM.
11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the detecting of the proximity of the mobile computing device comprises detecting that the mobile computing device is sufficiently close to a designated portion of the ATM.
12 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising receiving an indication that the mobile computing device has indicated a desire to communicate with the ATM before detecting the proximity of the mobile computing device.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the mobile computing device has indicated the desire to communicate with the ATM by scanning an optical code at the ATM.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the optical code is positioned on the ATM.
15 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the financial transaction is one of at least checking a balance of an account, making a deposit to the account, making a withdrawal from the account, initiating a transfer of funds from the account or purchasing an item.
16 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the synching of the display of the ATM comprises displaying content on the display of the ATM that is related to content to be simultaneously displayed on the display of the mobile computing device.
17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions for causing a mobile computing device to perform the following:
initiate a wireless communication session with an automated teller machine (ATM) from the mobile computing device, wherein the wireless communication session is conducted initially using a wireless protocol that requires proximity between the mobile computing device and the ATM; receive feedback that the wireless communication session with the ATM has been initiated; display on a display of the mobile computing device an indication that the session has been initiated; receive additional feedback indicating that ATM and the mobile computing device are now connected; update the display of the mobile computing device to provide a visual cue that indicates that the ATM is connected with the mobile computing device, wherein the visual cue is synched with a corresponding display on the ATM; initiate a financial transaction with the ATM from the mobile computing device; updating the display of the mobile computing device to show progress of the transaction; and display an animation on the display of the mobile computing device, wherein the animation relates to the financial transaction and is temporally synched with a corresponding animation on a display of the ATM.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , further storing instructions that cause the mobile computing device to:
complete the financial transaction; and update the display of the mobile computing device to indicate that the financial transaction is complete.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein positioning of the visual cue on the display of the mobile computing device depends on a relative position of the mobile computing device to the ATM.
