Abstract

The present disclosure provides biophotonic compositions, kits and their uses. In particular, the biophotonic compositions of the present disclosure arc substantially resistant to leaching such that low amounts of chromophores present in the biophotonic composition leach out of the composition. The biophotonic compositions and their uses are useful for promoting repair of non-healing wounds.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 133 . (canceled)

         134 . A kit comprising:
a biophotonic composition; wherein the biophotonic composition comprises:
 at least one chromophore; and
 a gelling agent present in an amount sufficient to gel the composition and render the biophotonic composition substantially resistant to leaching such that less than 15% by weight of the total chromophore amount leaches out of the biophotonic composition in use;
one or more of a light source for activating the at least one chromophore; and instructions for use of the biophotonic composition and the light source.

135 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition has a viscosity of between about 10,000 cP and about 50,000 cP.

136 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the gelling agent is one or more of a cross-linked polymer, a hydrophilic material, a hygroscopic material or a hydrated polymer.

137 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the gelling agent is present in an amount of about 0.5% to about 2% by weight of the final composition.

138 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is translucent.

139 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is for stimulating repair of a wound.

140 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is for stimulating collagen formation in a wound.

141 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is for initiating wound healing at a wound center.

142 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is for expressing growth factors at a wound center.

143 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the biophotonic composition is for generating a closed wound without a hollow under a surface of the closed wound.

144 . The kit of claim 139 , wherein the wound is a Grade II chronic wound, or a Grade III chronic wound, or both.

145 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the one or more of a light source emits a light having a wavelength that overlaps with an absorption spectrum of the at least one chromophore.

146 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the one or more of a light source has a power density of between about 50-150 mW/cm 2 at a distance of about 5 cm.

147 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the one or more of a light source emits visible non-coherent light.

148 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the one or more of a light source emits violet or blue light or both.

149 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the instructions are to topically apply the biophotonic composition to a wound, and illuminate said biophotonic composition with the one or more of a light source.

150 . The kit of claim 149 , wherein the instructions are to illuminate for 1 minute to 30 minutes.

151 . The kit of claim 149 , wherein the instructions are to remove the biophotonic composition after illumination.

152 . The kit of claim 149 , wherein the instructions are to use the biophotonic composition and the one or more of a light source using the following schedule:
 (a) a period of from 1 day to 24 weeks during which said biophotonic composition is topically applied to the wound, followed by (b) a rest period of from 3 days to 30 days; and (c) repeating at least (a) until wound closure.

153 . The kit of claim 134 , wherein the kit further comprises one or more waveguides.
