Abstract

A person who is not wearing a hybrid reality (HR) system communicates with the HR system without using a network communications link using a body pose. An image of an individual is captured using an image capture device and a computing device recognizes a body pose of the individual based on the image. The computing device then selects a response body pose based on the recognized body pose and prompts a user of the HR system to perform the response body pose as a response to the individual. The user is a different person than the individual.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
 capturing an image of an individual using an image capture device; recognizing, by a computing device, a body pose of the individual based on the image; selecting, by the computing device, a response body pose based on the recognized body pose; prompting a user of a hybrid reality (HR) system to perform the response body pose as a response to the individual, wherein the user is a different person than the individual.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , the HR system comprising the image capture device, a head-mounted display, and the computing device.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the HR system includes a head-mounted display and the computing device is remote from the HR system.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the image capture device is remote from the user and the HR system.

         5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the image capture device is mounted on a drone controlled by the user.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising presenting a virtual image of the response body pose to the user on a display of the HR system as at least part of the prompting.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 capturing, using the image capture device, a sequence of images of the individual, including the image, that show the individual making a gesture, the gesture including the body pose; recognizing the gesture, by the computing device, using the sequence of images; and selecting the response body pose based on the recognized gesture.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising prompting the user to perform a response gesture as the response to the individual, the gesture including the response body pose.

         9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 establishing, by the computing system, a characteristic of the individual, separate from the body pose, based on the image; selecting the response body pose based on both the recognized gesture and the characteristic of the individual.

         10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the characteristic comprises a type of the individual.

         11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the type of the individual is a soldier, a civilian, or a first responder.

         12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the characteristic comprises clothing worn by the individual.

         13 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising establishing the characteristic of the individual using facial recognition.

         14 . An article of manufacture comprising a tangible medium, that is not a transitory propagating signal, encoding computer-readable instructions that, when applied to a computer system, instruct the computer system to perform a method comprising:
 capturing an image of an individual using an image capture device; recognizing a body pose of the individual based on the image; selecting a response body pose based on the recognized body pose; prompting a user to perform the response body pose as a response to the individual, wherein the user is a different person than the individual.

         15 . The article of manufacture of claim 14 , the method further comprising presenting a virtual image of the response body pose to the user on a display of the HR system as at least part of the prompting.

         16 . The article of manufacture of claim 14 , the method further comprising:
 establishing, by the computing system, a characteristic of the individual, separate from the body pose, based on the image; selecting the response body pose based on both the recognized gesture and the characteristic of the individual.

         17 . A head-mounted display (HMD) comprising:
 a display; a structure, physically coupled to the display and adapted to position the display in a field-of-view (FOV) of a user; and a processor, operatively coupled to the display, the processor configured to:
 receive an image of an individual from an image capture device, wherein the individual is a different person than the user of the HMD;
 recognize a body pose of an individual shown in the image;
 select a response body pose based on the recognized body pose of the individual;
 prompt the user of the HMD to perform the response body pose as a response to the individual.

         18 . The HMD of claim 17 , further comprising the image capture device physically coupled to the structure and operatively coupled to the processor.

         19 . The HMD of claim 17 , the processor further configured to render a virtual image of the response body pose to the display as at least a part of the prompt.

         20 . The HMD of claim 17 , the processor further configured to:
 establish a characteristic of the individual, separate from the body pose, based on the image; select the response body pose based on both the recognized gesture and the characteristic of the individual.
