Abstract

The present application provides a novel phenyl derivative, 5-[(2,4-dinitrophenoxy)methyl]-1-methyl-2-nitro-1H-imidazole or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which is useful for regulating mitochondria activity, reducing adiposity, treating diseases including diabetes and diabetes-associated complications.

We claim: 
     
         1 . 5-[(2,4-dinitrophenoxy)methyl]-1-methyl-2-nitro-1H-imidazole or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         2 . A method of treating mitochondria-related disorders or conditions in a mammal in need thereof comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of the compound of  claim 1  or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is obesity, diabetes, or insulin resistance or intolerance. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the disorder is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), hepatic steatosis, or type 2 diabetes (T2DM). 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is obesity, or excess body fat. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is dyslipidemia. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is cardiovascular disease. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is heart disease. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the disorder is atherosclerosis. 
     
     
         10 . A method of reducing adiposity, controlling or preventing of weight gain in a mammal in need thereof comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of the compound of  claim 1  or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         11 . A method for stimulating oxygen consumption rate (OCR) in a mammal in need thereof comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of the compound of  claim 1  or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         12 . A method for treating inflammation and fibrosis resulting in NASH in a mammal in need thereof comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of the compound of claim  1  or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 
     
     
         13 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and the compound of  claim 1  or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
