Abstract

Disclosed herein are compositions, comprising nanosized droplets, wherein the nanosized droplets comprise a cannabinoid oil, a dietically acceptable carrier oil, a surfactant, and water. Also disclosed herein are methods of making and using the same.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An emulsion system for producing a cannabis-infused topical product, comprising a nano-emulsion composition comprising:
 a cannabinoid, a carrier oil, a main surfactant, and water;
 wherein the amount of the carrier oil is at least 0.3 times the amount of the cannabinoid; and 
 wherein the amount of the main surfactant is at least 0.65-times the amount of combination of cannabinoid and carrier oil; and 
 wherein the nano-emulsion is capable of being infused into a topical product to produce a cannabis infused topical product, wherein the cannabis infused topical product has a desirable effect when delivered transdermally, and wherein cloudiness or skin permeation properties of the cannabis infused product is determined by the emulsion that is selected for use in the system. 
   
     
     
         2 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the surfactant comprises a tween surfactant, a polyglyceryl surfactant, a long chain PEG surfactant, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         3 . The emulsion system of  claim 3 , wherein:
 the tween surfactant is selected from the group consisting of Tween 20, Tween 40, Tween 45, Tween 60, Tween 65, Tween 80, Tween 81 and Tween 85;   the polyglyceryl surfactant is a polyglyceryl monoester or a polyglyceryl multiester, wherein the polyglyceryl monoester is selected from the group consisting of Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprylate, Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-5 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-5 Myristate, Polyglyceryl-5 Isostearate, Polyglyceryl-5 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-5 Stearate, Polyglyceryl-6 Isostearate, Polyglyceryl-6 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-6 Stearate, Polyglyceryl-8 Oleate Polyglyceryl-8 Stearat, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Polyglyceryl-10 Palmitate, Polyglyceryl-10 Isostearate, Polyglyceryl-10 Linoleate, Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Polyglyceryl-10 Eicosadioate, Polyglyceryl-10 Behenate, Polyglyceryl-10 Hydroxystearate and Polyglyceryl-10 fatty ester (POLYALDO® 10-2-P)

         4 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the nano-emulsion further comprises a co-surfactant. 
     
     
         5 . The emulsion system of  claim 4 , wherein the co-surfactant is a small molecule food surfactant, a natural lecithin, a purified lecithin, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         6 . The emulsion system of  claim 5 , wherein the small molecule food surfactant is selected from the group comprising of: Span 20, Span 40, Span 60, Span 80, Span 83, Span 85, Span 120, Glyceryl Laurate, or Glyceryl Stearate Citrate. 
     
     
         7 .          8 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the carrier oil comprises oil derived from a plant or animal. 
     
     
         9 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the nano-emulsion further comprises one or more preservatives. 
     
     
         10 . The emulsion system of  claim 9 , wherein the preservative comprises ethyl lauroyl arginate, sodium bisulphite, potassium benzoate, potassium sorbate, ascorbic acid, citric acid, benzoic acid, sodium benzoate, calcium ascorbate, erythorbic acid, sodium ascorbate, sorbic acid, sulphurous acid, calcium sorbate, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The emulsion system of  claim 8 , wherein the oil is sunflower oil, olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, avocado oil, palm oil, soybean oil, corn oil, peanut oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, corn oil, hazelnut oil, rice bran oil, linseed oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, passion fruit oil, lard, butter, cheese, animal fat or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         12 . The emulsion system of  claim 1  wherein the cannabis-infused product is a water-based lube, topical ointment, facial spray, or makeup remover. 
     
     
         13 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the cannabis emulsion does not cause irritation or allergic reactions to the skin. 
     
     
         14 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the desirable effect is an anti-inflammatory effect. 
     
     
         15 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the cannabis-infused product is capable of a skin condition. 
     
     
         16 . The emulsion system of  claim 15 , wherein the skin condition is acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or cold sores. 
     
     
         17 . The emulsion system of  claim 1 , wherein the cannabis-infused topical product is formulated to remain in the epidermis layer.
