Rifle frame of a break-open action rifle having a recess for receiving an extended portion of a primer cap-propellant charge assembly
Abstract
A break open rifle having a barrel assembly with a breech end for receiving a propellant charge—primer cap assembly, a muzzle end, and a carve out, slot, indentation, cavity, or recess, which receives a portion of the propellant charge—primer cap assembly extending beyond the rim of the propellant charge. A ramp section of the recess, adjacent to the first end of the barrel assembly, is included to facilitate receiving the extension of the primer cap in a rotational fashion as the break open rifle is configured from the OPEN position to the CLOSED position. The recess and accompanying ramp section are configured to receive that portion of the primer cap which extends from the flush surface of the propellant charge rim, independent whether the configuration includes a barrel extension or not. The ramp is configured to receive the extended portion of the primer cap as the loaded rifle is placed in the CLOSED position to prepare for firing.
Claims

2 . The break-open action firearm of claim 1 including a barrel lug in rotational communication with said rifle frame.
3 . The break-open action firearm of claim 1 wherein said recess includes an angled ramp section to slidably receive said portion of said primer cap extending beyond said barrel breech end exposed outer surface.
4 . The break-open action firearm of claim 3 wherein said angled ramp section of said recess forms an indent or cavity within said rifle frame outer surface.
5 . A break-open action firearm comprising:
a rifle frame; a barrel assembly in rotational communication with said rifle frame; said rifle frame having an exposed surface facing said barrel assembly when said break-open action firearm is in a closed, firing position; and a recess in said rifle frame exposed surface; wherein said barrel assembly includes a breech end with an exposed outer surface, and a muzzle end, said muzzle end for receiving a projectile, said breech end for receiving a propellant charge—primer cap assembly, wherein said propellant charge includes a rim and a receiving cavity, and said primer cap insertable within said receiving cavity; said rifle frame exposed surface facing said barrel breech end exposed outer surface when said barrel assembly is rotated to a closed firing position; said recess shaped within said rifle frame exposed surface to receive a portion of said primer cap extending beyond said barrel breech end exposed outer surface and said propellant charge rim.
6 . The break-open action firearm of claim 5 wherein said recess receives said portion of said primer cap extending beyond said barrel breech end exposed outer surface when said barrel assembly is rotated to a closed firing position.
7 . The break-open action firearm of claim 6 wherein said recess slidably receives said portion of said primer cap extending from said propellant charge rim.
8 . The break-open action firearm of claim 5 wherein said recess includes an angled ramp portion and said angled ramp portion receives said portion of said primer cap extending beyond said barrel breech end exposed outer surface when said barrel assembly is rotated to a closed firing position.
9 . The break-open action firearm of claim 5 wherein said barrel assembly includes a barrel lug in rotational communication with said rifle frame.
10 . A rifle assembly for a break-open action firearm, comprising:
a rifle frame having a forward end, a rear end, a top surface, and an exposed face in the rifle frame forward end direction; a stock having a forward end and rear end, said stock forward end secured to said rifle frame rear end; a hinge pin or pivot pin on said rifle frame forward end for receiving a rotatable barrel; and a recess, carve out, slot, or ramp section within said rifle frame exposed face, forming an indentation or cavity with respect to said rifle frame exposed face extending from or proximate to said rifle frame top surface, and approximately centered about a width of said rifle frame forward end.
11 . The rifle assembly of claim 10 wherein at least a portion of said recess forms an angled ramp extending from or proximate to said rifle frame top surface.
12 . The rifle assembly of claim 11 wherein said recess increases in depth in said rifle frame exposed face as said recess or said angled ramp extends from or proximate to said rifle frame top surface.
13 . The rifle assembly of claim 11 including a barrel assembly pivotally mounted on the forward end of said rifle frame and rotatable within said rifle frame open top cavity.
14 . The rifle assembly of claim 13 , wherein said barrel assembly includes a rear, breech-end facing surface such that upon rotation of said barrel assembly into said rifle frame, said barrel assembly rear, breech-end facing surface is in close proximity to, and approximately parallel with, said rifle frame exposed face.
15 . The rifle assembly of claim 13 wherein said barrel assembly includes a barrel lug in rotatable communication with said hinge pin or pivot pin, said barrel lug received by said rifle frame open top cavity.
16 . The rifle assembly of claim 11 wherein said angled ramp is indented to receive an extended portion of a propellant charge—primer cap assembly extending from a breach end of a barrel assembly when said barrel assembly is rotated about said hinge pin or pivot pin towards and into said rifle frame open top cavity.
17 . The rifle assembly of claim 16 wherein said extended portion of said propellant charge—primer cap assembly extends beyond a rear, breech-end facing surface of said barrel assembly, such that said extended portion is received by said recess, carve out, slot, or ramp section when said barrel assembly is rotated into said rifle frame open top cavity.
18 . The rifle frame of claim 13 wherein said hinge pin or pivot pin comprises a rotation axle for connecting a barrel lug of said barrel assembly to said rifle frame forward end, the rotation axle being disposed proximate the end of the barrel lug, and allowing for breaking action of said break-open action firearm.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
