Abstract

Techniques for adaptive processing of media data based on separate data specifying a state of the media data are provided. A device in a media processing chain may determine whether a type of media processing has already been performed on an input version of media data. If so, the device may adapt its processing of the media data to disable performing the type of media processing. If not, the device performs the type of media processing. The device may create a state of the media data specifying the type of media processing. The device may communicate the state of the media data and an output version of the media data to a recipient device in the media processing chain, for the purpose of supporting the recipient device's adaptive processing of the media data.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . An audio decoding method, comprising:
 receiving an encoded bitstream, the encoded bitstream including encoded input audio data and processing state metadata including a loudness value; decoding the encoded input audio data; receiving signaling data indicating whether loudness processing should be performed on the decoded audio data; when said signaling data indicates that loudness processing should be performed on the decoded audio data:
 obtaining the loudness value from the processing state metadata; and
 normalizing loudness of said decoded input audio data according to the loudness value, to provide output audio data.

         2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein said processing state metadata further indicates whether dynamic range processing should be performed; said method further comprising:
 when said processing state metadata indicates that dynamic range processing should be performed:
 obtaining a dynamic range value from the processing state metadata;
 normalizing dynamic range of said decoded input audio data according to the dynamic range value.

         3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein said loudness value is computed on dialogue portions of the audio data.

         4 . An audio decoding system, comprising:
 a decoder configured to: receive an encoded bitstream, the encoded bitstream including encoded input audio data and processing state metadata including a loudness value, decode said encoded input audio data; and a post-processing unit configured to: receive signaling data indicating whether loudness processing should be performed on the decoded audio data, and when said signaling data indicates that loudness processing should be performed on the decoded audio data:
 obtain the loudness value from the processing state metadata;
 normalize loudness of said decoded input audio data according to the loudness value, to provide output audio data.

         5 . The system according to claim 4 , wherein said processing state metadata further indicates whether dynamic range processing should be performed; and wherein said post-processing unit is further configured to:
 when said processing state metadata indicates that dynamic range processing should be performed:
 obtain a dynamic range value from the processing state metadata;
 normalize dynamic range of said decoded input audio data according to the dynamic range value.

         6 . The system according to claim 4 , wherein said loudness value is computed on dialogue portions of the audio data.
