Claims

Abstract

Compositions and methods for preparing mesoporous and/or mesostructured materials from low SAR zeolites are provided herewith. In particular, methods are provided that involve: (a) providing a low SAR zeolite, (b) optionally subjecting the low SAR zeolite to an acid framework modification, and (c) subjecting the framework-modified zeolite to a mesopore formation treatment. The resulting mesoporous zeolites can have bi-modal mesoporosity and higher aluminum contents relative to existing mesoporous zeolites.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A low SAR zeolite, wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises a mordenite having a silica to alumina molar ratio of 12 or less, a faujasite having a silica to alumina molar ratio of 5 or less, a BEA zeolite having a silica to alumina molar ratio of 15 or less, an LTL zeolite having a silica to alumina molar ratio of 5 or less, an FRE zeolite having a silica to alumina molar ratio of 10 or less, or a combination thereof, wherein said low SAR zeolite a dV/log(d) of at least 0.13. 
     
     
         2 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite has a mesopore ratio in the range of 0.1 to 0.9. 
     
     
         3 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite has a total 20 to 300 Å diameter mesopore volume in the range of 0.05 to 0.70 cc/g. 
     
     
         4 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite has a total 20 to 300 Å diameter mesopore volume of at least 0.08 cc/g and a dV/log(d) of at least 0.19. 
     
     
         5 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite has a dV/log(d) in the range of 0.3 to 100 and a mesopore ratio in the range of 0.2 to 1.2. 
     
     
         6 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises said mordenite. 
     
     
         7 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises said faujasite. 
     
     
         8 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises said BEA zeolite. 
     
     
         9 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises said LTL zeolite. 
     
     
         10 . The low SAR zeolite of  claim 1 , wherein said low SAR zeolite comprises said FRE zeolite. 
     
     
         11 . A mesoporous zeolite having a dV/log(d) in the range of 0.13 to 100 and a mesopore ratio in the range of 0.2 to 1.2, wherein said mesoporous zeolite comprises a mordenite, a faujasite zeolite, a BEA zeolite, an LTL zeolite, an FRE zeolite, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         12 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite has a crystalline content of at least 20 weight percent as measured by XRD. 
     
     
         13 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite has a total 20 to 80 Å diameter mesopore volume of at least 0.05 cc/g. 
     
     
         14 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite has a total 20 to 300 Å diameter mesopore volume of at least 0.10 cc/g. 
     
     
         15 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite has a total 20 to 300 Å diameter mesopore volume of at least 0.08 cc/g and a dV/log(d) of at least 0.19. 
     
     
         16 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite is said mordenite, wherein said mordenite has a silica to alumina molar ratio in the range of 2 to 9.5. 
     
     
         17 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite is said faujasite zeolite, wherein said faujasite zeolite has a silica to alumina molar ratio in the range of 2 to 4.5. 
     
     
         18 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite is said BEA zeolite, wherein said BEA zeolite has a silica to alumina molar ratio in the range of 2 to 14. 
     
     
         19 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite is said LTL zeolite, wherein said LTL zeolite has a silica to alumina molar ratio in the range of 2 to 4.5. 
     
     
         20 . The mesoporous zeolite of  claim 11 , wherein said mesoporous zeolite is said FRE zeolite, wherein said FRE zeolite has a silica to alumina molar ratio in the range of 2 to 9.5.
