Abstract

A mast is erected to support a radio antenna. At least one stay cable supports the mast. The stay cable is oriented to the mast within an acute angle. The stay cable is stressed to support the mast.

1 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a mast;   a radio antenna supported by the mast, the radio antenna coupled to radio communications equipment; and   a stay cable supporting the mast, the stay cable having an end attached proximate a top of the mast, the stay cable having an opposite end anchored to ground, the stay cable having a plurality of individually tensioned wires bundled in parallel that permits orienting the stay cable to the mast at an acute angle that does not exceed ten degrees.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the acute angle is less than seven degrees. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising multiple ones of the stay cable supporting the mast. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a means for attaching the end of the stay cable to the mast. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a means for anchoring the opposite end of the stay cable to the mast.
