What is claimed is:

. A method of treating epilepsy by a administering an effective amount of (Z)-2-(3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ylidene) acetic acid, its salts or analogs, in a pharmaceutical formulation suitable essentially for nasal delivery.

. The method of treating epilepsy of claim 1 , wherein the analog is (Z)-2-(3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ylidene) acetic acid-Lys-Lys-OH.

. The method of treating epilepsy of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical formulation is a liquid, a suspension, a gel, an emulsion, or a cream.

. The method of treating epilepsy of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical formulation is comprised of a vegetable oil and a surfactant.
