Cannabis based moist snuff

Abstract

A non-tobacco, cannabis based moist snuff composition is provided. The composition includes an herbal component primarily made up of cannabis leaves and/or stems and a casing component. Methods for producing a nontobacco cannabis based moist snuff composition are also provided. The method includes the steps of separating the leaves and stems from the cannabis plant, drying and curing them and mixing them with a casing component.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A moist snuff composition comprising:
 an herbal component comprising leaves of a cannabis plant;   a casing component absorbed by and surrounding the herbal component; and   a nanoemulsion comprising tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).   
     
     
         2 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the THC and CBD are included as decarboxylated cannabinoid extracts of whole plant, strain specific extracts. 
     
     
         3 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 2 , wherein a ratio of THC:CBD in the decarboxylated cannabinoid extracts is between 1:100 and 100:1. 
     
     
         4 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the THC and CBD are included as a solvent extracted cannabis oil. 
     
     
         5 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 4 , wherein the oil is present in an amount sufficient to provide 1-100 mg/400 mg moist snuff of at least one of the THC and CBD. 
     
     
         6 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , further comprising cannabis stems. 
     
     
         7 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 6 , wherein the leaves and stems have a particle size of about 3-60 mesh. 
     
     
         8 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 6 , wherein a ratio of leaves:stems is within a range of about 10:1-1:1. 
     
     
         9 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , further comprising a liquid nicotine additive included in the casing component, the liquid nicotine additive being present in an amount ranging from about 0.005 to 0.2% by weight of the moist snuff composition. 
     
     
         10 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the casing component further comprises a flavoring component and the flavoring component further comprises at least one of a terpene, a terpenoid, and a combination thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 10 , wherein the flavoring component includes a plurality of terpenes or terpenoids, or the combination of terpenes and terpenoids. 
     
     
         12 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , further comprising cannabis buds. 
     
     
         13 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the casing component further includes a capsaicin-containing pepper compound to provide a pepper taste to the moist snuff. 
     
     
         14 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 13 , wherein the capsaicin-containing pepper compound is cayenne pepper. 
     
     
         15 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 14 , wherein the cayenne pepper is present in the casing component as a dispersed solid in an amount ranging from about 0.01% to about 0.50% by weight of the casing component. 
     
     
         16 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the leaves are fan leaves having been dried and cured to remove chlorophyll therefrom. 
     
     
         17 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 16 , wherein the dried and cured fan leaves have been smoke cured. 
     
     
         18 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 16 , wherein the dried and cured fan leaves have been age cured for 2-4 weeks. 
     
     
         19 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 16 , wherein the dried and cured fan leaves have a moisture content of about 7-10%. 
     
     
         20 . The moist snuff composition of  claim 1 , wherein the herbal component further includes one or more of corn silk, alfalfa, coffee, chickory, coca leaves, tobacco, sweet clover, and mint leaves.
