Abstract
Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to joint compounds for sealing exterior sheathing wallboards applied on the exterior of buildings. This invention also relates to a process of preparing such exterior joint compounds. The joint compounds of this invention comprise an aqueous emulsion system and provide water resistance comparable to the substrate on which they are applied, that is, the exterior sheathing wallboards.

1 . A water-resistant joint compound comprising:
water; a defoaming agent; preservatives; calcium carbonate or gypsum or a combination thereof; mica or talc or a combination thereof; attapulgite clay; and wax emulsion, wherein the wax emulsion comprises paraffin wax, montan wax, carnauba wax, sunflower wax, rice wax, tallow wax, a wax containing organic acids and/or esters, or an emulsifier containing a mixture of organic acids and/or esters, or synthetic wax, or combinations thereof.Cited by (0)
