Abstract

Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for delivering a customizable feedback stimulus. In one implementation, a custom feedback device comprises a shell housing having a first shell and a second shell. The shell housing opening extends between an outer surface of the first shell and an outer surface of the second shell. A plurality of protrusions extends between the first shell and the second shell, and at least one receiving area is defined by the plurality of protrusions between the first shell and the second shell. The receiving area is adapted to house a customized portion.

1 . A custom feedback device comprising:
 a first shell having a first inner surface disposed opposite a first outer surface, the first inner surface including at least one of a ridge or a groove;   a second shell having a second inner surface disposed opposite a second outer surface;   the first shell releasably engageable to the second shell to form a shell housing based on a connection between the first shell and the second shell, the connection forming:
 a side receiving area around a side of the shell housing; and 
 a corner receiving area at a corner of the shell housing, the side receiving area and the corner receiving area defined between the first shell and the second shell; 
   a first customized portion of a plurality of customized portions adapted to be housed at the side receiving and mate with the ridge or the groove of the first shell by having a shape complementary to the ridge or the groove; and   a second customized portion of the plurality of customized portions adapted to be housed at the corner receiving area.   
     
     
         2 . The custom feedback device of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the side is a first side and the side receiving area is a first side receiving area around the first side;   the connection forms a second side receiving area around a second side of the shell housing; and   the corner receiving area is disposed between the first side receiving area and the second side receiving area.   
     
     
         3 . The custom feedback device of  claim 2 , wherein the first customized portion is a first side insert, the second customized portion is a spinnable corner insert, and the custom feedback device further includes a second side insert adapted to be housed at the second side receiving area, the second side insert being a different type of side insert than the first side insert. 
     
     
         4 . The custom feedback device of  claim 3 , wherein the spinnable corner insert is a cylindrical shape with one or more raised ridges spaced equidistantly around the spinnable corner insert. 
     
     
         5 . The custom feedback device of  claim 3 , wherein the spinnable corner insert is rotatable about a vertical axis when housed at the corner receiving area. 
     
     
         6 . The custom feedback device of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the first customized portion is retained in the side receiving area when the first shell and the second shell are engaged; and   the first customized portion is interchangeable with a third customized portion when the first shell and the second shell are disengaged.   
     
     
         7 . The custom feedback device of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the side is one side of three sides of the shell housing; and   the corner receiving area is one corner receiving area of three corner receiving areas between the three sides.   
     
     
         8 . The custom feedback device of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the at least one of the ridge or the groove is a first ridge or a first groove; and   the second shell includes a second ridge or a second groove parallel to the first ridge or the first groove upon forming the connection between the first shell and the second shell.   
     
     
         9 . The custom feedback device of  claim 1 , further comprising a cylindrical liner disposed in a central opening of the shell housing formed by a first shell opening of the first shell aligning with a second shell opening of the second shell. 
     
     
         10 . A custom feedback device comprising:
 a first shell having a first inner surface disposed opposite a first outer surface, the first inner surface including a first insert receiver;   a second shell having a second inner surface disposed opposite a second outer surface, the second inner surface including a second insert receiver;   the first shell releasably engageable to the second shell to form a shell housing by forming a connection between the first shell and the second shell, the connection forming:
 a first side receiving area positioned around a first side of the shell housing; 
 a second side receiving area positioned around a second side of the shell housing; and 
 a corner receiving area positioned at a corner of the shell housing between the first side receiving area and the second side receiving area; and 
   a customized portion adapted to be housed at the first side receiving area by mating with the first insert receiver and the second insert receiver based on having a shape complementary to the first insert receiver and the second insert receiver.   
     
     
         11 . The custom feedback device of  claim 10 , wherein:
 the first insert receiver is a first ridge or a first groove; and   the second insert receiver is a second ridge or a second groove opposite the first ridge or the first groove such that the second ridge or the second groove forms the first side receiver area with the first ridge or the first groove upon forming the connection.   
     
     
         12 . The custom feedback device of  claim 10 , wherein:
 the first shell includes a first shell opening;   the second shell includes a second shell opening;   the connection aligns the first shell opening and the second shell opening to form an opening of space extending through a center of the shell housing; and   a cylindrical liner is disposed in the opening of space.   
     
     
         13 . The custom feedback device of  claim 10 , wherein the first side receiving area, the second side receiving area, and the corner receiving area are defined between the first shell and the second shell upon forming the connection. 
     
     
         14 . A custom feedback device comprising:
 a first shell having a first inner surface disposed opposite a first outer surface;   a second shell having a second inner surface disposed opposite a second outer surface, the first inner surface or the second inner surface including an insert receiver;   the first shell releasably engageable to the second shell to form a shell housing by forming a connection between the first shell and the second shell, the connection forming:
 one or more side receiving areas positioned around one or more sides of the shell housing; and 
 a corner receiving area positioned at a corner of the shell housing, the corner receiving area and the one or more side receiving areas being defined between the first shell and the second shell; and 
   one or more customized portions adapted to be housed at the one or more side receiving areas or the corner receiving area by having a shape complementary to the insert receiver for mating with the insert receiver.   
     
     
         15 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions includes a wheel adapted to be received at the one or more side receiving areas. 
     
     
         16 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions includes a joystick adapted to be received at the one or more side receiving areas. 
     
     
         17 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions includes a rocker switch adapted to be received at the one or more side receiving areas. 
     
     
         18 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions includes an abacus adapted to be received at the one or more side receiving areas. 
     
     
         19 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions includes a sliding button on a track adapted to be received at the one or more side receiving areas. 
     
     
         20 . The custom feedback device of  claim 14 , wherein the one or more customized portions is adapted to be received at the corner receiving area and includes one or more of a cylinder, an hourglass-shape, a ring, or a post.
