Abstract
A package with a coating composition deposited on at least a portion thereof is disclosed. The coating composition comprises:(a) a latex polymer comprising the emulsion polymerization product of(i) an emulsion monomer component comprising at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer polymerized in the presence of(ii) a surfactant that is polymerizable with the at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer.Also disclosed is a method for applying the coating composition to the package.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 22 . (canceled)
23 . A package with a coating composition deposited on at least a portion thereof, wherein the coating composition comprises:
(a) a latex polymer comprising the emulsion polymerization product of:
(i) an emulsion monomer component comprising at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer reacted in the presence of
(ii) a surfactant reactive with the at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer;
(b) a curing agent, wherein the curing agent comprises at least one of a phenoplast, aminoplast, hydroxyalkyamide, hydroxyalkylurea, and/or a combination thereof; and (c) a polar polyolefin.
24 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers are free of styrene and/or epoxy group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
25 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the coating composition is substantially free of bisphenol A and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE).
26 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the coating composition does not release formaldehyde upon curing.
27 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the polar polyolefin comprises a polyethylene (meth)acrylic acid copolymer.
28 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the polar olefin is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 5 to 50 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition.
29 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the latex polymer has an average particle size of from 0.05 to 1.0 microns.
30 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the latex polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 100,000 to 800,000.
31 . The package of claim 23 , wherein:
the latex polymer is present in the coating composition in amounts of greater than 50 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition; the curing agent is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 5 to 40 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition; and the polar olefin is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 5 to 50 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition.
32 . The package of claim 23 , wherein the package is a metal can.
33 . A package with a coating composition deposited on at least a portion thereof, wherein the coating composition comprises:
(a) a latex polymer comprising the emulsion polymerization product of:
(i) an emulsion monomer component comprising at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer reacted in the presence of
(ii) a surfactant reactive with the at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer;
(b) a curing agent, wherein the curing agent comprises at least one of a phenoplast, aminoplast, hydroxyalkyamide, hydroxyalkylurea, and/or a combination thereof; and (c) a phosphorus acid.
34 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the ethylenically unsaturated monomers are free of styrene and/or epoxy group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomers.
35 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the coating composition is substantially free of bisphenol A and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE).
36 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the coating composition does not release formaldehyde upon curing.
37 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the phosphorus acid is phosphoric acid.
38 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the phosphorous acid is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 0.1 to 1.0 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition.
39 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the latex polymer has an average particle size of from 0.05 to 1.0 microns.
40 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the latex polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 100,000 to 800,000.
41 . The package of claim 33 , wherein:
the latex polymer is present in the coating composition in amounts of greater than 50 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition; the curing agent is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 5 to 40 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition; and the phosphorous acid is present in the coating composition in amounts of from 0.1 to 1.0 percent by weight based on resin solids weight of the coating composition.
42 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the package is a metal can.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
