Abstract

A drain cover assembly. The cover may be used with roof drains or other drains and allow for fluid collection into the drain even with buildup of debris around or on the cover. The cover may have a lower flange or portion with a large area and extending outwardly in an arcuate configuration and having openings for fluid flow. The lower portion may be oriented at a small angle with respect to the horizontal. An upper portion may be connected to the lower portion and may be more vertically-oriented than the lower portion and also extend arcuately and having openings. Locking assemblies may be adjustable to secure the cover to a clamping collar over a drain. The locking assembly may include a base that slidingly engages the collar, and a housing that is secured over the base and to secure the cover to the collar.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A drain cover assembly comprising:
a cover having an arcuate skirt defining a central axis and extending outward and downward from an upper portion to an outer edge in a first direction that is generally away from the central axis and generally away from the upper portion, the outer edge defining a series of gaps configured to allow fluid to flow through the gaps, wherein the first direction forms an angle A with a portion of the central axis that extends below the skirt, wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty degrees, wherein the skirt forms a plurality of openings extending through the skirt, wherein the cover is configured to be placed over a drain body opening having a maximum width of W, wherein at least a portion of the outer edge of the skirt is located a perpendicular distance R 2 from the central axis, wherein R 2 is at least twice W, and wherein the skirt defines a notch located between two ribs of the skirt at the outer edge; and a locking assembly, wherein the notch is configured to receive the locking assembly therein to secure to the cover to a clamping collar that is configured to couple with a mounting surface adjacent a drain.

         2 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein R 2 ≥3×W.

3 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty-five degrees.

4 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein the clamping collar is located completely beneath the arcuate skirt.

5 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 wherein the clamping collar has an outer edge that extends above the outer edge of the arcuate skirt.

6 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein the locking assembly comprises a base having a foot extending radially outwardly therefrom and a housing that slides over the base.

7 . The drain cover assembly of claim 6 , wherein the locking assembly further comprises a threaded rod extending through the housing and a nut configured to be tightened over the threaded rod and housing to clamp the locking assembly and cover to the clamping collar.

8 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein the drain cover assembly comprises two of the locking assemblies, and wherein the skirt comprises two of the notches.

9 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein R 2 is a radius of the outer edge of the skirt, and wherein the skirt is swept out circularly about the central axis.

10 . The drain cover assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cover further comprises a dome located above the skirt, the dome having a lower portion attached to the skirt.

11 . The drain cover assembly of claim 10 , wherein the dome has a sidewall containing the lower portion, wherein the sidewall forms a plurality of first openings extending through the sidewall.

12 . The drain cover assembly of claim 10 , wherein the dome and skirt are swept out arcuately about the central axis.

13 . The drain cover assembly of claim 10 , wherein the dome extends upward from the lower portion to a top portion of the dome in a second direction that is generally away from the skirt.

14 . The drain cover assembly of claim 13 , wherein the second direction is parallel with the axis.

15 . The cover of claim 13 , wherein the dome extends inward from the lower portion to the top portion of the dome in the second direction, wherein the second direction is generally toward the central axis, and wherein the second direction forms an acute angle B with a portion of the central axis that extends above the dome.

16 . The drain cover assembly of claim 15 , wherein the acute angle B is less than or equal to thirty degrees.

         17 . A drain cover assembly comprising:
a cover having an arcuate skirt defining a central axis and extending outward and downward from an upper portion to an outer edge in a first direction that is generally away from the central axis and generally away from the upper portion, wherein the first direction forms an angle A with a portion of the central axis that extends below the skirt, wherein the angle A is greater than or equal to sixty degrees, wherein the skirt forms a plurality of openings extending through the skirt, wherein the skirt defines a notch located between two ribs of the skirt at the outer edge; and a locking assembly configured to be received into the notch, the locking assembly comprising:
a base extending vertically upward and a foot extending radially outwardly from a bottom portion of the base, the foot configured to be located underneath a portion of a clamping collar when assembled; and
a housing configured to be secured to the base to secure the cover to the clamping collar.

18 . The cover of claim 17 , wherein the housing of locking assembly further comprises two lateral grooves configured to receive corresponding ribs of the cover, wherein the housing can slide up and down on the base to be secured at a desired vertical height.

19 . The cover of claim 17 , wherein the locking assembly further comprises a threaded rod and a nut, the nut configured to be tightened over the rod and onto the housing to secure the cover to the clamping collar.

20 . The cover of claim 17 wherein the cover is configured to be placed over a drain body opening having a maximum width of W, wherein at least a portion of the outer edge of the skirt is located a perpendicular distance R 2 from the central axis, and wherein R 2 is at least twice W.
