Abstract
A method and system for monitoring a location via a called telephony communication device is disclosed. The method at the called telephony communication device includes receiving a request from a calling telephony communication device. Further, the method includes determining whether the received request is for monitoring the location. The method further includes automatically transmitting audio/video data captured via the called telephony communication device to the calling telephony communication device when the received request is determined to be one for monitoring the location.

2 . A monitoring device comprising:
a sensor device configured to capture infra-red movement at a location; a battery configured to provide power to the monitoring device;
a transmitter; and
a processor configured to:
receive, from a client device, a request to monitor the location; and
responsive to receiving the request, automatically transmit, via the transmitter and to the client device, at least the captured infra-red movement.
3 . The monitoring device of claim 2 , further comprising:
a camera configured to capture video data at the location, wherein the processor is further configured to transmit the video data in response to receiving the request to monitor the location.
4 . The monitoring device of claim 2 , further comprising:
a microphone configured to capture audio data at the location, wherein the processor is further configured to transmit the audio data in response to receiving the request to monitor the location.
5 . The monitoring device of claim 2 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
receive, from the client device, authentication information; and determine, based on the authentication information, whether the client device is authenticated, wherein the processor is configured to automatically transmit at least the captured infra-red movement to the client device in response to determining that the client device is authenticated.
6 . The monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the client device is authenticated based on one or more of biometric information provided at the client device and a password provided at the client device.
7 . The monitoring device of claim 2 , further comprising:
a received configured to receive the request using an internet-protocol based network.
8 . The monitoring device of claim 2 , further comprising:
a microphone; and a speaker, wherein the request to monitor the location is a request to engage in a two-way communication session, and wherein the processor is further configured to:
receive, from the client device, output audio data;
output, via the speaker, the output audio data;
receive, via the microphone, input audio data; and
transmit, to the client device, the input audio data.
9 . A method comprising:
receiving, at a battery-powered monitor device and from a client device, a request to monitor a location; capturing, using a sensor device of the monitoring device, infra-red movement at the location; and responsive to receiving the request to monitor the location, automatically transmitting, via a transmitter of the monitoring device and to the client device, at least the captured infra-red movement.
10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
capturing, using a camera of the monitoring device, video data at the location; and responsive to receiving the request to monitor the location, transmitting, via the transmitter and to the client device, the video data.
11 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
capturing, using a microphone of the monitoring device, audio data at the location, responsive to receiving the request to monitor the location, transmitting, via the transmitter and to the client device, the audio data.
12 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
receiving, from the client device, authentication information; and determining, based on the authentication information, whether the client device is authenticated, wherein automatically transmitting at least the captured infra-red movement to the client device is in response to determining that the client device is authenticated.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the client device is authenticated based on one or more of biometric information provided at the client device and a password provided at the client device.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the request to monitor the location is received using an internet-protocol based network.
15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the request to monitor the location is a request to engage in a two-way communication session, the method further comprising:
receiving, from the client device, output audio data; outputting, via a speaker of the monitoring device, the output audio data; receiving, via a microphone of the monitoring device, input audio data; and transmitting, to the client device, the input audio data.
16 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a battery-powered computing device, cause the one or more processors to:
receive, from a client device, a request to monitor a location; capture, using a sensor device of the computing device, infra-red movement at the location; and responsive to receiving the request to monitor the location, automatically transmit, via a transmitter of the computing device and to the client device, at least the captured infra-red movement.
17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:
capture, using a camera of the computing device, video data at the location;
capture, using a microphone of the computing device, audio data at the location; and
responsive to receiving the request to monitor the location, transmit, via the transmitter and to the client device, at least a portion of the audio data and at least a portion of the video data.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:
receive, from the client device, authentication information; and determine, based on the authentication information, whether the client device is authenticated, wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to automatically transmit at least the captured infra-red movement to the client device is in response to determining that the client device is authenticated.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the client device is authenticated based on one or more of biometric information provided at the client device and a password provided at the client device.
20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the request to monitor the location is received using an internet-protocol based network.
21 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the request to monitor the location is a request to engage in a two-way communication session, and wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to:
receive, from the client device, output audio data; output, via a speaker of the computing device, the output audio data; receive, via a microphone of the computing device, input audio data; and transmit, to the client device, the input audio data.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
