Functionalized peptides as antiviral agents

Abstract

The present invention discloses compounds of Formula (I), and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, thereof: which inhibit coronavirus replication activity. The invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of Formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable slat thereof, and methods of treating or preventing a coronavirus infection in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of Formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . A compound represented by Formula (VI-6a), 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein 
         X is —CN; and 
         A is optionally substituted C 1 -C 8  alkyl or optionally substituted heteroaryl. 
       
     
     
         2 . The compound of  claim 1  wherein A is optionally substituted C 1 -C 8  alkyl. 
     
     
         3 . The compound of  claim 1  wherein A is optionally substituted heteroaryl. 
     
     
         4 . The compound of  claim 1  wherein A is selected from the groups below, 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       each of which is optionally substituted.

         7 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound of  claim 1  and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. 
     
     
         8 . A method of treating or preventing a coronavirus infection in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of  claim 1 .
