Method and system for adapting augmented switching warning
Abstract
The present teaching relates to method, system, and medium, for presenting a warning to a driver. An instruction indicating an upcoming change in an operating mode of the vehicle is obtained, wherein the instruction specifies a set of tasks to be completed by the driver and a task duration associated with each task. Information of a current state of the driver is obtained and used to determine a warning to be used to alert the driver to perform the change, wherein the warning includes warning content and indication of at least one media to be used to deliver the warning content. A warning schedule is generated to comprise a set of warnings, each warning corresponding to one task, and arranged in an order based on an order of the tasks. The warning schedule is transmitted so that each warning of the set of warnings is executed.
Claims

obtaining a warning schedule comprising one or more warnings, each warning from the one or more warnings being associated with a task from one or more tasks; and with respect to a warning of the one or more warnings,
selecting at least one media through which the warning is to be delivered to a driver of a vehicle,
delivering the warning via the selected at least one media,
determining, in response to the delivering the warning, whether the task associated with the warning is completed within a task duration time; and
in response to the task being incomplete within the task duration time, executing an exception handling process.
2 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media includes at least one of a selectable sound source, a vibration source, a light source, a visual source, an augmented visual source, or an audio source.
3 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media is selected based on a current state of the driver of the vehicle.
4 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one media used to deliver the warning to the driver of the vehicle is determined based on a driver profile, the driver profile including characteristic information relevant to the driver.
5 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the step of delivering further comprises:
maintaining the selected at least one media in an active state for a time duration corresponding to a warning duration time that is associated with the task and that is less than the task duration time.
6 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising: modifying, before the executing the exception handling process, the warning by performing at least one of:
adjusting at least one parameter associated with the selected at least one media; or determining additional media to be used to re-deliver the warning to the driver of the vehicle.
7 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the exception handling process is at least one of:
bringing the vehicle to a halt, initiating a communication for assistance, or sending a GPS location of the vehicle to a server that monitors operations of the vehicle and other vehicles.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the exception handling process includes bringing the vehicle to a halt, the method further comprising:
in response to the task being incomplete within the task duration time,
determining a speed of the vehicle,
determining a lane of a road in which the vehicle is traversing,
determining neighboring traffic of the vehicle, and
identifying a shoulder region of the road,
the exception handling process of bringing the vehicle to the halt being based on the speed of the vehicle, the lane, the neighboring traffic and the shoulder region.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the exception handling process includes initiating a call for assistance via a mobile phone associated with the vehicle.
10 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to:
select at least one media through which a warning from one or more warnings within a warning schedule is to be delivered to the driver of the vehicle, deliver the warning via the selected at least one media, determine, in response to delivering the warning, whether a task associated with the warning is completed within a task duration time; and in response to the task being incomplete within the task duration time, execute an exception handling process.
11 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the at least one media includes at least one of a selectable sound source, a vibration source, a light source, a visual source, an augmented visual source, or an audio source.
12 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the at least one media is selected based on a current state of the driver of the vehicle.
13 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the at least one media used to deliver the warning to the driver of the vehicle is determined based on a driver profile, the driver profile including characteristic information relevant to the driver.
14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the step of delivering further comprises:
maintaining the selected at least one media in an active state for a time duration corresponding to a warning duration time that is associated with the task and that is less than the task duration time.
15 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , further comprising: modifying, before the executing the exception handling process, the warning by performing at least one of:
adjusting at least one parameter associated with the selected at least one media; and determining additional media to be used to re-deliver the warning to the driver of the vehicle.
16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the exception handling process is at least one of:
bringing the vehicle to a halt based on a speed of the vehicle, a lane of a road in which the vehicle is traversing, a neighboring traffic of the vehicle and a shoulder region of the road, initiating a communication for assistance via a mobile phone associated with the vehicle, or sending a GPS location of the vehicle to a server that monitors operations of the vehicle and other vehicles.
17 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to:
select at least one media through which a warning from one or more warnings within a warning schedule is to be delivered to the driver of the vehicle; deliver the warning via the selected at least one media; monitor, in response to the delivering, the driver of the vehicle in terms of carrying out a task associated with the warning in accordance with the warning; modify the warning to produce a modified warning in response to a determination, based on the monitoring, that the task is not carried out within a first time period; deliver the modified warning; determine, in response to delivering the modified warning, whether the task is completed within a second time period; and in response to the task being incomplete within the second time period, execute an exception handling process.
18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein:
modifying the warning includes at least one of:
adjusting at least one parameter associated with the selected at least one media; or
determining additional media to be used to re-deliver the warning to the driver of the vehicle
the delivering the modified warning includes delivering the modified warning via the additional media.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the exception handling process is at least one of:
bringing the vehicle to a halt based on a speed of the vehicle, a lane of a road in which the vehicle is traversing, a neighboring traffic of the vehicle and a shoulder region of the road, initiating a communication for assistance via a mobile phone associated with the vehicle, or sending a GPS location of the vehicle to a server that monitors operations of the vehicle and other vehicles.
20 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the exception handling process includes bringing the vehicle to a halt, the instructions further comprising instructions that cause the processor to:
in response to the task being incomplete within the second time period,
determine a speed of the vehicle,
determine a lane of a road in which the vehicle is traversing,
determine neighboring traffic of the vehicle, and
identify a shoulder region of the road,
