Methods of treating schizophrenia
Abstract
Provided herein are methods for determining if a compound has potential efficacy for the treatment for a specific symptom domain of schizophrenia, such as for example, the treatment of a negative symptom of schizophrenia. In addition, provided herein are methods of determining the prominent symptom domain of a subject suffering from schizophrenia. Further, provided herein are various methods for the treatment of the negative symptoms, cognitive dysfunction symptoms, or both, associated with schizophrenia comprising administering to a subject a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of various compounds.

82 . A method for treating a neurological disorder comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, for four weeks to a subject in need thereof, wherein the subject experiences a decrease in negative symptoms, cognitive symptoms, or both, associated with the neurological disorder after four weeks of administration.

The method of claim 82 wherein the neurological disorder is schizophrenia, schizophrenia spectrum disorder, acute schizophrenia, chronic schizophrenia, NOS schizophrenia, schizoid personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, delusional disorder, psychosis, psychotic disorder, brief psychotic disorder, shared psychotic disorder, psychotic disorder due to a general medical condition, drug-induced psychosis, psychoaffective disorder, aggression, delirium, Parkinson's psychosis, excitative psychosis, Tourette's syndrome, organic psychosis, NOS psychosis, seizure, agitation, post-traumatic stress disorder, behavior disorder, neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, dyskinesias, Huntington's disease, dementia, mood disorder, anxiety, affective disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, vertigo, epilepsy, pain, fibromyalgia, migraine, cognitive impairment, movement disorder, restless leg syndrome, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorder sleep apnea, narcolepsy, excessive daytime sleepiness, jet lag, drowsy side effect of medications, insomnia, substance abuse or dependency, addiction, eating disorder, sexual dysfunction, hypertension, emesis, Lesch-Nyhan disease, Wilson's disease, autism, Huntington's chorea, or premenstrual dysphoria.
84 . The method of claim 83 wherein the affective disorder is depression, major depressive disorder, dysthymia, bipolar disorder, bipolar depressive disorder, manic disorder, seasonal affective disorder, attention deficit disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
85 . The method of claim 83 wherein the pain is neuropathic pain, sensitization accompanying neuropathic pain, or inflammatory pain.
86 . The method of any one of claims 82 - 85 wherein the compound is administered once daily.
87 . The method of any one of claims 82 - 85 wherein the compound is orally administered once daily.
88 . The method of any one of claims 82 - 85 wherein the therapeutically effective amount is from about 10 mg to about 300 mg per day.
89 . The method of any one of claims 82 - 85 wherein the therapeutically effective amount is from about 20 mg to about 250 mg per day.
