Drug delivery device with electronics and power management
Abstract
A system may limit the number of times an inhalation device transmits inhalation data to a single time to reduce the battery usage of the inhalation device. The system may include an inhalation device that has medicament and an electronics module. The system may limit the number of times the inhalation device transmits new inhalation data to any mobile device to a single time by causing the server to receive the new inhalation data from one of the mobile devices and causing the server to transmit the new inhalation data to other of the mobile devices prior to the other mobile devices transmitting a request for the new inhalation data to the inhalation device. The inhalation device may include a Quick Response (QR) code, and a mobile application may determine at least one of a medication type or a number of doses of the inhalation device from the QR code.

7 . The inhalation device of claim 1 , wherein the medicament type is a maintenance medicament type, and the strength is one of a plurality of different strengths of the maintenance medicament type.
8 . The inhalation device of claim 1 , wherein the QR code further comprises an indication of a serial number of the inhalation device.
9 . The inhalation device of claim 1 , wherein the QR code further comprises an indication of a hardware revision number of the inhalation device or a software revision number of the inhalation device.
10 . The inhalation device of claim 1 , wherein the communication key comprises a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication passkey.
11 . A system comprising:
an inhalation device comprising:
a main housing comprising a mouthpiece and medicament;
an electronics module comprising a processor, memory, and a communication circuit; and
a Quick Response (QR) code configured to provide a multi-digit alphanumeric code that indicates a medicament type of the medicament of the inhalation device, a strength of the medicament of the inhalation device, and an initial number of doses of the medicament of the inhalation device, wherein the QR code further comprises a communication key that enables communication with the communication circuit of the electronics module; and
a computer-readable storage medium residing on a mobile device, wherein the computer-readable storage medium comprises computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of the mobile device cause the processor of the mobile device to:
capture an image of the QR code of the inhalation device using the camera of the mobile device;
determine the medication type, the strength, and the initial number of doses of the medicament of the inhalation device on the product identifier based on the multi-digit alphanumeric code provided by the QR code.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
send the medication type or the strength of the inhalation device to a server; and receive an indication of a user's compatibility with the strength of the medicament of the inhalation device from the server.
13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine that the inhalation device is incompatible with a user based on the strength of the medicament of the inhalation device indicated by the multi-digit alphanumeric code; and reject a pairing process of the inhalation device with the mobile device based on the inhalation device being incompatible with the user.
14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine that the inhalation device is incompatible with the computer-readable storage medium or a user based on the strength of the medicament of the inhalation device indicated by the multi-digit alphanumeric code; and generate an error message on a display device of the mobile device based on the inhalation device being incompatible with the computer-readable storage medium or the user.
15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine that the inhalation device is incompatible with the computer-readable storage medium or a user based on the medication type of the inhalation device indicated by the multi-digit alphanumeric code; and generate an error message on a display device of the mobile device based on the inhalation device being incompatible with the computer-readable storage medium or the user.
16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine a dosing schedule based on the multi-digit alphanumeric code provided by the QR code; and generate an alert indicating that a scheduled dose is due based on the dosing schedule of the inhalation device.
17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine that a user or the computer-readable storage medium is associated with a different inhalation device comprising the same medicament but in a different strength; and generate a change in medicament strength alert via a display device of the mobile device.
18 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the change in medicament strength alert indicates that the different inhalation device should be removed if it is no longer in use.
19 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is configured to cause the processor of the mobile device to determine a refill notification based on the initial number of doses of the medicament of the inhalation device indicated by the multi-digit alphanumeric code provided by the QR code.
20 . A system comprising:
a first inhalation device comprising:
a main housing comprising a mouthpiece and a rescue medicament;
a first electronics module comprising a processor, memory, and a communication circuit; and
a first Quick Response (QR) code configured to provide an indication of the rescue medicament type of the first inhalation device and provide a first communication key that enables communication with the communication circuit of the first electronics module of the first inhalation device;
a second inhalation device comprising:
a main housing comprising a mouthpiece and a maintenance medicament;
a second electronics module comprising a processor, memory, and a communication circuit; and
a second QR code configured to provide an indication of the maintenance medicament type of the second inhalation device and provide a second communication key that enables communication with the communication circuit of the second electronics module of the second inhalation device; and
a computer-readable storage medium residing on a mobile device, wherein the computer-readable storage medium comprises computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of the mobile device cause the processor of the mobile device to:
determine the first communication key and that the first inhalation device comprises the rescue medicament type based on an image of the first QR code of the first inhalation device;
determine the second communication key and that the second inhalation device comprises the maintenance medicament type based on an image of the second QR code of the second inhalation device; and
