Antivenom compositions and uses thereof

Abstract

Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating a victim of a venomous snakebite. Antivenom compositions are prepared from snake plasma or from snake eggs. The antivenom compositions are able to neutralize a snake venom from an autologous snake. The antivenom compositions can be administered to a snakebite victim to treat or prevent the pathological effects of a venomous snakebite.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A composition comprising a combination of plasma from two or more snake species, wherein each snake species is different and each snake species is a venomous snake species. 
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the combination of plasma is from a first and a second snake species. 
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 2 , wherein the combination of plasma is in a ratio of the volume of plasma from the first snake species to the volume of plasma from the second snake species ranging from about 1:1 to about 10:1. 
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 2 , wherein the ratio of the volume of plasma from the first snake species to the volume of plasma from the second snake species is about 1:1, about 2:1, about 3:1, about 4:1, about 5:1, about 6:1, about 7:1, about 8:1, about 9:1, or 10:1. 
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 4 , wherein the ratio of the volume of plasma from the first snake species to the volume of plasma from the second snake species is about 3:1. 
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the snake species is a member of the genus  Lampropeltis  sp,  Drymarchon  sp,  Boiruna  sp or  Gonionotophis  sp. 
     
     
         7 . The composition of  claim 5 , wherein the first snake species is a Python species and the second snake species is a  Lampropeltis  species.
