Abstract
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, transmitting a signal during a media presentation, wherein the signal is transmitted prior to an advertising timeslot during the media presentation, receiving a first indication that the signal is detected by a user device, and receiving a second indication of a status of the user device, wherein the status coincides with when the user device detects the signal. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A device, comprising:
a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: obtaining an authorization from a user of a user device; based on the obtaining of the authorization, obtaining media, the media comprising an advertising timeslot; identifying the advertising timeslot within the media based on a tag that is appended to the media; transmitting a signal to the user device prior to the advertising timeslot; obtaining an indication from the user device that the signal is detected by the user device; based on the obtaining of the indication, scoring a probability of a consumption of a particular advertisement included in a pool of advertisements across a plurality of users, the plurality of users including the user; and causing a copy of the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertisement timeslot based on the scoring.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the copy of the particular advertisement is stored in a storage media of the user device, and wherein the causing of the copy of the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertisement timeslot comprises causing the user device to insert the copy from the storage media.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the signal comprises a sound wave that includes an audio code.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the audio code has a frequency that is less than 20 Hz or greater than 20 KHz.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the signal comprises a pattern of infrared light.
6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the indication comprises an identification of the user device, an identification of the advertising timeslot, or a combination thereof.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the causing of the copy of the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertisement timeslot is further based on: a genre of a program included in the media, a user demographic, a user profile, a log of media consumed by the user of the user device, information regarding products or services purchased or browsed by the user, or any combination thereof.
8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the copy of the particular advertisement is stored at the device.
9 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
identifying an advertising timeslot within media; based on the identifying of the advertising timeslot, transmitting a signal to a user device prior to the advertising timeslot; obtaining an indication that the signal is detected by the user device; based on the obtaining of the indication, scoring a probability of a consumption of a particular advertisement included in a pool of advertisements; and transmitting, based on the scoring, the particular advertisement to the user device to cause the user device to present the particular advertisement during the advertising timeslot.
10 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving the indication in a message from the user device.
11 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the signal comprises a sound wave that includes an audio code.
12 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the audio code is undetectable by a human and undetectable by an animal.
13 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 9 , wherein the indication comprises a status, and wherein the status comprises an identification of a type of a communication session that the user device is engaged in.
14 . A method comprising:
identifying, by a processing system including a processor, an advertising timeslot; based on the identifying of the advertising timeslot, transmitting, by the processing system, a signal to a communication device prior to the advertising timeslot; obtaining, by the processing system, an indication that the signal is detected by the communication device; scoring, by the processing system and based on the obtaining of the indication, a probability of a consumption of a particular advertisement included in a pool of advertisements; and causing, by the processing system and based on the scoring, the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertising timeslot.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the obtaining of the indication is based on the signal being received by: a microphone coupled to the communication device, a camera coupled to the communication device, or a combination thereof.
16 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
transmitting, by the processing system and based on the causing of the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertising timeslot, the particular advertisement to the communication device.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the communication device comprises a phone, a tablet, or a combination thereof.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the indication comprises an identification of the communication device and an identification of the advertising timeslot.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the indication comprises a status of the communication device, the status comprising an indication of whether the communication device is placed in a do not disturb mode.
20 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the causing of the particular advertisement to be inserted in the advertising timeslot comprises causing the communication device to insert a copy of the particular advertisement stored at the communication device in the advertising timeslot.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
